Well, I am on my third week here and I can tell you that you do not need an air conditioner in a well ventilated space, even during the day. This is coming from someone that went from the dead of winter in Colorado to Medellin.

As for suggestions, I can personally recommend the place I'm staying now. I'm renting the master bedroom from a wonderful Colombiana here in Belen. She charges $800k for the month, including breakfast. No AC, but very well ventilated and it has hot water. Internet is 2meg cable with a wireless router. (actual download speeds hover around 215kilobytes/sec)

I'm leaving on April 2nd and she is looking for more tenants.

I hope my post doesn't break any rules, I certainly am not getting a commission from referals.

I rented an apartment in El Poblado for 50 dollars a night with free local phone, wireless internet, small kitchen and located in a very good area, within walking distance of a Carulla supermarket. YOu may get a better rate if you stay longer than one week. Let me know if you are interested and I will give you the contact information.

by the way, you will not need AC in Medellin, the weather is warm during the day and cool at night. How long will it take you from centro to Bello?  I would give yourself  an hour from door to door using the metro, a taxi might be faster

Yup, takes me about 45-55 minutes from my room in Belen to my gf's work in Niquia(7k taxi, 1.5k metro ticket).

Niquia is the station north of Bello. I'm sure Bello will be cheap if you find a room, but unless you have a mastery of Spanish and can blend in, be careful when not in a crowd. I'm not slamming Bello, my gf's neighborhood is probably slightly worse, just saying don't  piss anyone off in that neighborhood.

I have no idea how you are going to get by cheaply in Medellin and still have a good time with the chicas....I just got back form Medellin and I can say that my opinion of paisas are still the same....hard headed interesadas (only interested in money) or just plain slow when it comes to relationships in general.

However I still believe a  guy that lived in Medellin and had all the time in the world to court these women or had a lot of cash to throw around could end up with some very hot women.  Met a  good looking gringo there that has been hitting on the same waitress for two weeks in La Strata and hasn't even gotten a date yet. After living in Cali I can safely say that I'm incapable of this type of behavior. jajaja!!

I rented an apartment threw this website: http://www.theapartmentmedellin.com and can say my experiance was positive. In any event I 'm happy to be back in Cali where the weather is hot and the chicas are even hotter.

I hear ya man..... When I lived in Cali I never had to hardly do any work to meet ladies.. In fact a good majority of the time they would call to ask ME out, although I still had to pay. :D
After a couple of years I moved from Cali to Medellin and it actually became work to pick up girls and while I still went out with my fair share of them it was nothing compared to the number I met/dated in Cali.

I hear ya.  This one is a little stand offish.  But I also know there are a lot of gringos that say they are coming to visit them and don't.
