Moving and working in Colombia
« on: January 27, 2010, 07:04:49 PM »
I am making my first trip to Colombia in June. You can read in my introductions what I had to say there so I don't have to type all that again. My question is, if I decide that I really like it there and want to try living there for awhile, how do I even go about finding work, place to live, and all the necessary documentation that goes along with it?

That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

It is hard enough for people looking for a job in the USA to find decent work right now. My question would be how do you plan to earn a decent living in Colombia?

You can be dirt poor teaching english, have a job you can do from your computer, or ???. Seriously how do you plan to make a living in Colombia? That's the important question with no easy answers.
Retiring in Tela, Honduras is 14,600 days (haha)

I do have a few things I do on the Internet that make me a small income. Also, teaching English wouldn't be all about the money, as long as I can pay my bills. I am not really sure, that is why I am asking what expats are doing there that aren't retired. Just exploring options and asking questions.

I met a couple of guys here in Cali that worked online as a mortgage broker and a computer programer. Most of the guys that I know that live here have retirement income and or are day traders. The others rent apartments to americans as a middle man or rent places and sublet them to gringos that don't have a cedula thus can't sign a rental agreement for themselves.

Then you have the guys in the sex chat business and one that works as a part time pimp.

The good knews is I haven't found any americans in the drug business yet.
