recently, well, last week,
a close friend ,  met a young girl on colombian cupid,  , last trip, she called him on his  cell , from her moms cell in Barranquilla, that's were it started getting weird.
 
chatted with her many times on MSN, letters back and  forth, saw her and her family through web cam, sent him  some really good photos  etc.  talked a few times by phone, she wanted him to go meet her in BQ on his  next  trip, but he told her "i cant  spend the $$$ until you  met a close  friend in BQ in person, to verify everything is OK ",  so she called his  friend,  but never made the apt to meet her and made excuses, that she was too busy to meet the friend. 
 
then he started putting some things together, she told him  she broke up with her novio 3 months ago, because of something bad he did, but she wouldn't say what it was,hummmm .  she didn't have a cell of her own, hummmm, so she said  ,   so he did a  little digging on internet,  found her name and   profile in Face book, under another e mail address. checked her profile, it said she was  in a relationship with some guy, so he asked her about it, of course she lied and said " oh, i haven't checked that profile in months, since i broke up with my novio"     ok, so why is their a comment on your friends profile from you, from 5 days ago and your profile photo just changed ?   so at this  point, he knows she is full of krap, and decided to bust her.

she had her novios name listed on facebook, so he got his e mail address,  and sent him a letter, asking him, " hey, is your novia is such and such, ?why is she on colombian cupid.com, meeting guys and asking me to go see her in Barranquilla, and sending me photos of her, if you two are together ?
 
he never got a responce form the guy, but she jumped on MSN chat the next morning, ALL PISSED OFF!!!!!  saying, " you have ruined my life, i have had a novio for 1.5 years, and you and i are just friends"     not any more . 2 days later, both facebook profiles were deleted.   

sooooo. before you go to meet some young, cute girl form the internet, good idea to verify her with a friend who lives in her city, before you go and spend a lot of $$$$ and time.

on another note, another friend of mine just got married to a very nice girl, so the bad with the good

Good idea there Mudd.  My wife also said that is an excellent idea if you know someone from the same city to help check out your girl.

Now that I'm a little more experienced and thinking with the right head now....it has also crossed my mind, and it wouldn't take too much effort on the girl's part considering some of these guys are complete and total idiots to begin with, that some of these girls may and could set some guy up to be kidnapped, robbed or even killed in some of these countries almost immediately upon arriving and meeting them.  What would it take if you have never been to the country or city with no friends in that particular city?  All it would take is a whore monger or some idiot plus a very attractive girl/woman who is basically hired by some unscrupulous people with a cab driver as an accomplice and viola!  Instant victim in a city he's never been in with no friends to help him.  It really wouldn't matter if you was fluent in the country's language or not, if you're an idiot or a whore monger you are setting your own self up anyway.   

Absolutely no offense to Mr. Mudd, I'm sure he's connected to a top notch agency.....but there are alternatives to using an agency's employee to help you translate or get around the city if this is a fear you may have.

You meet girls on social networking, the mall, clubs, personal sites, etc. Meeting any of them comes with a risk. Are they currently with a guy? Is there a former guy that is still attached to her? Is it a worst case scenario and she is setting you up... or could she not even know she's being used to set you up?

In my opinion you just can't eliminate all the risk. I see differences in meeting a girl from a city in Colombia compared to Tela, Honduras (or La Ceiba)... but since most go to Colombia I'll focus the comments there.

I had some personals girls I wanted to meet, agency girls I wanted to meet, and just girls all over town I wanted to run into.  The less time involved up front the less risk IMO.

I walk into an agency and say I'd like to meet 3 girls. How much will you charge me? Then I give them the names/ profile numbers and the agency gets in touch with them. I always set up the meetings/dates ASAP.

The same works with personals. Once you get in town send them a message. If they answer tell her you are in town and would like to meet ASAP.

I think where you meet is important as well. A guarded hotel with a cafe (especially if its not your hotel) would be a great choice. I'd suggest you stay out of her turf at first and just travel by cab to nice tourist friendly places.

I agree with checking out her social networking and would be on that ASAP if you didn't meet her that way. If it says in a relationship..... just move on!

I think you can limit your risk... but you are still in Colombia! You should always be thinking with the upstairs head.

Just goes to show you some guys will never get a grip on Colombia.....There are NO young really good looking chicas in Colombia that are single. If you got some game you could have probably been able to land the that little cuttie. And if she was very satisfied with you she would have gladly taken her photo off of colombian cupid. None of the hot women in Colombia are sitting at home waiting for mister right.

Colombianas are like monkeys....the never let go of one branch untill they get a good hold on another.

I suggest some of you should stick with the older colombianas with children as they may in fact actually be single as in no one will or able to take them out. hehehe !!!

very true, the young 18-25 attractive girls know they have options and are very good opportunists, none are per say " single" at any time. they all have " amigos con direchos"  or " friends with benefits" if you think they dont,, your completely wrong.
