SO MUCH TO TAKE IN!!! Please help!
« on: February 17, 2009, 10:17:29 PM »
Hello all,

I am very new here... And have been reading through the boards for the past few hours!  I posted and intro about myself in the Introduction section, but a lil about me to help you make a better decision.

Basically I am looking for a latin wife (who isn't here right?..LOL).  I have just separated from the Military after 8 years of service.  With the current economic crisis, there are no jobs for me, so my budget is tight.  Anything I will be looking for will be in the near future after employment is established.

I just don't know where to begin.  How much should I be spending on services?  and anything after that.  What would one say that the average cost is to, for lack of a better phrase... "Close the deal" on a perfect match for yourself?

Any advice after that would be EXTREMELY helpful and I would like to thank anyone in advance for your input and advice.

Thanks again!

If you know some spanish use columbia cupid. It will save you a few thousand. If not go with an agency just for the translator.
Personally i recommend learning the spanish first, communication is important with your significant other.

Welcome to the Board

Budget 15K for the search/visa/trips, etc and if you get away for less then that, count yourself lucky. This is an expensive endeavor and trying to cut corners will most Likely end up in failure.

well, to put it in $$$ numbers, figure each trip will cost you anywhere from $ 1500 to $ 3000 depending on how much you blow, where you stay, what agencies you use, how long you stay ect.

Okay... thank you all for the advice.  It is definitely something I needed to know.

So what would the next step be.?

I would rather learn from the wise/experienced, thank make a huge mistake of my own. 99% of the time I like to learn the hard way.. but doing this the hard way can lead to serious problems or even death! And I appreciate all of your guys help.

And leatherneck, you are most welcome.  I sincerely appreciate the appreciation!

Total outlays from beginning (when you purchase your first batch of contact addresses) to end (when your new wife finally gets her citizenship or at least work authorization if she wants to get a job instead of making babies), you can expect to shell out close to the equivalent of a year's salary.  But don't worry, that is not all at once.  That gets spread out over several years.  This is not a quick process, at least not if you are smart and careful.  You have to be patient.  Guys hot and horny for a wife will either import one they know little about and have the situation explode in their face (BTDT), or bow out and settle for some local girl.

Since you are currently gainfully unemployed, you might want to look into what educational opportunities your veterans' benefits allows you.  See if they will cover community college classes, then enroll in night classes for Spanish or, if you prefer, Portuguese.  You may even find being bilingual beneficial on a job application.

Thank you for your service, and may this new journey prove fruitful.

Just to add to the stew here,

Your cost definitely depends on what latin country you are going to. Also where you live (the closer to where you're flying to will be cheaper). If you use an agency or not. So if you have a burning desire to really do this right, $1500 - $5000 is a basic range. This pursuit will cost you more because you have to fly there as opposed to driving locally in your town dating, but the ladies are completely different and worth the $ you invest.

Good luck in your quest!

Thank you all for the advice and information.  So I am definitely going to enroll in some classes.  Portuguese would be my preference.

So in the mean time, what should I do?

surf the web, for cities, other peoples experiences. just learn as much about as you can. that way you know what you are really in for, worse or best case scenarios.

In my opinion there is no way to put a real estimate on it.  You could buy one address for $10, fall in love, she has a travel visa, 1 plane ticket to US $750, she visits you civil wedding in back yard $50 (license) and have it all done for less than a $1,000.

I have a friend that has been to Colombia at least 3 times a year for 10 years, multiple fiancee visas, travel visas, etc., and finally married someone from Bogota last summer.  I am sure he has at least $100,000 into over the course of 10 years.

Try to figure out a budget that makes sense, read through the forums here and learn as much as you can and find out what the best approach is for you.  Some like to meet people on the internet, emails, webcam then visit.  Others like to join and agency and go on a tour.  I tried it both ways, but this is a great site to get some ideas.  I wish I found it many years ago.

I agree with the guys above, one trip is in the $2,500 to $3,000 range.  Throw in an agency it it's probably closer to $3,000 to $5,000 for your first trip.  Learn as much as the language as you can as well, it helps a lot.  Especially when meeting parents.

Amazing....!  the information i get from you is truly priceless.  I think I am aiming at Brazil, So today I am headed out to purchase the Rosetta Stone for Portuguese.

Im gonna say that the best way for me would be to get information on the ladies by purchasing the info of the web.  Its the best economic decision for me right now.  Especially if any of them have a webcam or some sort of messenger.  Does anyone know a good website for purchasing addresses, etc.  And my other worry is that I purchase addresses and the girls want nothing do do with me (not for the fact that I am not their type... but they don't want anything to do with the agency)

Oh well.. here goes nothing.  Headed out to find some addresses.  Wish me luck guys! ;)

And sabound, thank you very much.  It is truly appreciated!

Welcome WnaBeLkMikey.

I think your next steps should be:

1. Figure out what language you want to learn, and take a course immediately.  I'd recommend Spanish because you just have so many more options ... it's spoken in many more countries.  Sure Brasileiras are hot, but you are limiting yourself and for my money I'd still pick Colombianas.  Also, I'm guessing Colombia is a little cheaper than Brasil.  For instance, I can often fly return from Detroit to Cartagena for under $US450 (taxes included).  I haven't researched Brasil but I doubt it's that cheap.

2. Once you get a few classes under your belt, get online and use a dating site to meet a few women.  At this point, pick only 1-3 at most, and your objective should be to make FRIENDS and to LEARN.  Use these friendships to practice your Spanish or Portuguese, but just as importantly take the opportunity to LEARN about these women ... how to talk to them, their culture, their country, their family, their friends, their morals, EVERYTHING.  Maybe you'll get lucky like me and the friendship will evolve into something more ... but if not, you've still received the huge benefits of practicing the language and learning about the women, the country, and the culture you have chosen.  I chatted and corresponded with my (now) novia online for 8 months before we met, and even if we hadn't had chemistry in person, I wouldn't have regretted one second of the time we spent together.  Believe me, there's nothing more motivating to learn the language than wanting to communicate with a beautiful woman.

3.  Do NOT make the mistake of talking sexually to these women online.  This is a huge turn-off and deal breaker for any decent woman.  I can't believe the things my novia has told me about guys she met online ... her sister and other friends have had similar bad experiences.  Makes me embarrassed to be a gringo.  You don't have to worry about finding out in advance if these women are passionate ... it's a stereotype because it's TRUE!  OK, I have to confess about breaking this rule a little, but that was not until about 2 weeks before I was flying down to meet her, and not until I knew she was ready and wanted to hear some of it.  :-)

If your lady starts getting sexual with you after only a few days or weeks, this is a red flag.  You're not that hot!  Not all of the women online have good intentions, just like not all of the men do.

Also, NEVER lie.  Not only will it catch up to you, but who wants to be in a relationship with a liar ... do you?

Hope this helps ... it should keep you busy for awhile ... buena suerte!

Are you saying in person or over the internet? I agree with the getting sexual over the internet that fast is a red flag, but in person is a totally different story in my opinion.

If you are thinking about Brazil, latineuro.com has some many women form Brazil.  The biggest complaint with them is that they don't always take unavailable women off their site, but if you buy in packages, it's not too bad.  You get email, address, phone numbers, it's enough to get going.

Also try Amigos.com, for around $100/year you can have gold access to all the women on their site, includes latin women from all over the world.  Just becareful of the super model women with amazing photos who falls in love in two emails, has a friend that works in the embassy and can get a visa and plane ticket for $1,000 to come visit you, if only she had a $1,000.

WOW!!! Well I have to commend you PainfullyObvious, on your referral of websites.  LatinEuro has some amazing women on there.  Before I came across this board, I had attempted this a while pack.  I actually purchased from LE before.  But I had purchased mainly Brazilian women.  Now with the advise of the board I have broadened my horizons, and MAN how I find the Colombian women to be SOOOO MUCH more open to talk then the Brazilians.  No offense to anyone here, but the women of Brasil see to have their head pretty far up there Culos!

None the less... have chatted with a few women from Colombia and am working on my spanish.  And using this as a friendship stepping stone like Whitey had said before.  Just learning the culture, etc.

We will see what happens from here.

P.S... If anyone would like to get the complete Rosetta Stone for Spanish and Portuguese, I am able to obtain it for you! Just shoot me a PM.

Thanks again guys!!

WnaBeLkMikey,

I found my wife on Latin American Cupid .com .. You can use agencies , websites or whatever to find your future Latina wife..

I would also consider Peru or Ecuador also in your search.. A lot of guys have found great wives there..

Listen to your gut instinct as it will be right 99 % of the time.  Follow your mind and heart.. One of the biggest mistakes you can make is listening to your little head over your big head..

Welcome to the board..

Good luck and all the best to you in your search..

HELLO! I read some of the replies and you are not getting much help. My name is King Dphax. I travel to Cartagena every 3 or 4 months. My recommendation is to arrive in Cartagena for 3, 4 of 5 days this May. I will be staying for one month from April 30th (34 days). The BEST way to meet ladies, in my opinion, is to meet ladies by going places and referrals from others. I have two ex-girlfriends in CTG (Cartagena). I'll explain why later.

Some of the ladies on those sites (not all) live lives of prostitutes. There are different kinds of protitution. Not all of them are having sex. Some are being treated to breakfast, lunch and dinner for 4, 5 or 6 days that you are there. Some want things purchased for them, etc, etc. The cheapest way is to meet up with ME when I go. I have an adopted family there. I am starting a business. I want to buy a house there and more. Please contatc me.

First thing you should do is decide what country you are interested in and then make a major effort to learn the language. Spend some time deciding how you want to do things. Do you want to use an agency or join one of the online sites like Amigos.com?  Are you comfortable traveling to another country on your own or do you need the security of an agency and translators.  We have had people whom have had success by all different means, so what may work for you will not work for someone else.  The last thing I would suggest is not wait too long to make a trip. on your first trip, just think of it as a vacation and enjoy your time meeting different women, but don't get serious with anyone yet. This will be the first of many trips you will be making, unless of course you are one of the lucky ones and find the "one" on your first trip.  This is an expensive process, so if you can't afford the trips needed to get to know someone and to pay all the related expenses, you are better off finding someone local to you.

Just my humble opinion

Dan
