I am in complete agreement with you. I am somewhat impulsive, so maybe I could have used some of your advice at different times in my life!

Yes, unfortunately this whole thing gets compacted down to a matter of days in most cases to decide whether or not this woman is the right fit or not. Almost like a flip of the coin! Those that are on a tight schedule or are simply impatient are most likely going to pay dearly in the end with lost $ and an empty bed!

I think I would advise those who asked my opinion if they truly feel based on however much time they have spent (3 hours, 3 months 3 years) based on what they want in a companion and what their gut tells them does it feel right. There is a fine line I feel between getting to know someone and just stretching the thing out too long. But I agree that if you don't let the whole thing congeal a bit, then you're doomed.

By the way, your wife is gorgeous, so I can't imagine you're on a ledge ready to jump!
You are a lucky man and I hope that you and Mrs. L4W have many happy years together.

From reading the stories, I am clearly one of the exceptions but I felt that I knew my wife about as well as I ever was going to know her. After five years there really isn't anything that I've discovered about her that is a deal breaker or even upsetting. So maybe I was just lucky.

  Not to stretch this thread to infinity, but...

Relationships are so tricky. Who knows how long anyone's marriage will last. My parents have been together since 1963 and they argue like two sailors in a bar sometimes, so I would have lost money on them staying together.

I know of friends that are married that I have no idea how they are still together, so who knows. I suppose all that Minotoro and anyone else here can do is due dilligence. Find out as much as you can (or care to!) about your significant other and make a decision. I look at it as more of a balance scale. Does her good points and things that are not so hot balance out? Let's not pretend that she is some angel that has no bad habits. And to turn the hot lights on ourselves. As men, we have many habits that I would say are potential deal breakers as well!

I'm very fortunate to have a woman that overlooks my bad points and wants to be my wife. L4W and Utopiacowboy have found their soulmates as well it would seem. But no one here truly knows what lies around the corner. So, you thank God you have such a beautiful woman that is in your life and work to keep her in it. That's all you can do...

Hey thanks for all of your replies! I will keep all of this in mind. In 12 days i will be in barranquilla again, and get to know her and her family a bit better.

Cant wait to eat that Colombian food.

Do whatever makes you and your lady happy. There is no right or wrong, just make sure she is the one. That's the only question that's important. When you make her official is irrelevant.

please take the time to read my post and do not make all the same mistakes i made. Do not be blinded my the fact that she speaks English and i truly hope her name is not LINA. The guy's on this board will give you a lot of insight on how to do this the right way so you will not get hurt.

I wish you the best of Luck and if there is any way i can help you just ask i made over 15 trips to BAQ and i still got it wrong. There are guy's that made 2 to 4 trips and are doing just fine in the states with there girl.

Let me add to what Ray has said:

Although there is no right or wrong time to ask a woman to be your wife and make things official, you definitely should get to know her friends and family and make sure that things that things with her seem right and she tells you are the truth. In general you don't feel like you're getting hosed by her just because she's saying the things you want to hear in your ear.

Be sure that what she tells you is the God's honest truth and isn't sneaking around behind your back and she is worthy of your trust and love. If you aren't careful and paying attention or are not willing to dump her overboard when things don't look right, you will never forgive yourself as you would be the only one to blame. Even though the woman would be in the wrong for blowing up the future between you two, you could have prevented it.

This whole thing of a foreign bride is costly enough without having to get burned by a quick divorce with your new bride because you didn't do your due diligence.

Are there nice beaches nearby?

and twice has hot in the summer
the nice beach is in cartagena
nice beach by who's standard
Colombians think there Beach's are beautiful

they will not compare to Florida or the gulf of Mexico
they could not even compare to the Jersey shore.
