Problems with Chikka
« on: March 08, 2006, 08:58:47 PM »
I have had problems with Chikka from day one.  Sometimes I can connect but most of the time I can't  This time it has been months since my last connection.  I can't even get to www.chikka.com?

But today the stangest thing happened.  I forgot to say "logon with existing ID" and it went immediately to registration.chikka.com!  I thought wow its gonna be online again.  So I clicked on the link for download to get the lastest version (I had deleated the last latest version I had and used an older version I had stored on my wifes laptop).  Nada.

That hit me as odd so I tried all the links on the page and not one worked so I assumed that the IP of the registration must be different from home site.

I decided to ping each site of each link on that page.  Could not ping any of the sites (timed out), even the registration site, although I could still logon to it.  I checked my host file to see if somehow it had been placed there to block me from going there and nada.

It hit me that maybe Roadrunner was blocking the IP so I did a tracrt of 203.20.203.101 (www.chikka.com) and the route went throught 15 routers before "timing out" after 66.236.9.94.ptr.us.xo.net  (max 30 router traces).  I tried several of the other IPs for chikka and got the exact same result.

Does anyone know who this is and/or if chikka is being blocked and why?

Bear,

I have no first-hand knowledge of Chikka but I have used dozens of other free SMS sites in the past. Eventually, all of the sites one by one had been blocked by Smart or Globe in the Philippines. In the old days, all free sms text messages to the Phils could be sent with no cost to the sender or the receiver. Filipinos could text to an e-mail address for something like P2 per message.

Smart and Globe were making zero money on all those incoming text messages so they blocked the sending sites from their network. I believe they allowed sites like Chikka to operate because they were charging a fee to receive the messages on the other end. I don't know if Chikka was paying them anything but maybe Chikka just wasn't making money on their venture and folded(?). How did Chikka make money? Through advertising?

Sallie uses Chikka everyday. It seems to be working fine.

Being good at some softwares and hardware devices doesn't make you good at or knowledgeable about all.  The software I use is extremely specialized and can't be prirated or reverse engineered.  Its a combination PLC-like encoded function block.  Other guys in the office do the servers and networking but I am getting ready to go back to school for certification.  We were just bought out (again!) and one of the benes is every new BS degree gets you and extra 10K in stock/cash.  I only need 46 hrs to finish one degree and 33 for another.

I get by with most but I think routers are my achilles heal and I am thinking thats were my problem is but I am lost as to why i made it through 15 routers on the tracert before it times out.  Seems like it should have died at mine if it was my router.

Hi Bear,

I have only experienced problems with chikka a few times in the past but that was because internet explorer was down.  Anecita, uses it everyday to communicate with her Family in Butuan.
