Christmas gifts in Colombia
« on: December 18, 2007, 03:01:42 PM »
I have a questions guy's when i was in Barranquilla i hit it off with a special women
and her daughter. When i was there she purchased some nice small gifts for me and my daughters. I will be going back over the new year would it be out of line to bring  her and her daughter and Christmas gift. I know she will have gifts for me and my daughter. She could be the one but i am going slow when i visit she is asking me to stay at her house and she wants me to meet the rest of her family. She is telling me not to waste my money on a hotel.    Give me some feed back................

There are rules, such as CaliPro's Rule No.1" and "paying Papaya", but I follow one general rule when it comes to spending my own money. If I feel good about doing it, then I do it. If I don't feel good about doing it, then I won't. If the woman has treated you well, then reciprocate, unless Colombia is one of those countries that believes that the exchange of gifts is like exchanging marriage vows, or sleeping under her roof means that you are married! (just pulling your chain)  ;D

Well raycjs,

I would get something for her and her child... Your situation is quite
different since you have been talking for hours every day on the phone and chatting even longer since you came back..

She made the first move by bring your daughters and you presents on your first visit(which your girls loved I understand).. She made the second move by already buying Christmas gifts for your daughters and you for when you arrive back next week..

I think should follow your heart on this and do what feels good for you.. I do not feel it is out of line to bring presents for her and her daughter.. I do not think anybody can argue against this suggestion.. If they do I would like to hear it..

In fact I would go so far as to say you are obligated to bring something which I think is how you feel as well..

Since she is a working single mom I would concentrate on the little girl.. I know as a widowed single father whenever somebody is kind
or does something special for my children, that person goes way up
in my books..

A woman could get me gifts and that would be sweet but get something for my kids and I would be blown away and very touched..

Since you are both single sole support parents you have a special connection also..

I wish you the best…

I would stay in a hotel if you want to slow down.  You may feel smothered in her house.  I really like Soltero's advice on giving and doing what you feel good about.  Regardless of wheather you stick with this gal or not, I think it would be very appropriate to bring a small gift or two for the lady and her little munchkin. The joy you bring will make you feel good too.

Do not allow yourself & her become too attached, if you don't really feel the fire for her.

They seem to really like name brand perfumes. You don't have to spend very much to get a small bottle of something.

I agree....you should get some gifts for her and the child.  As far as sleeping at her house....perhaps if they had a spare bedroom or something, if you wanted to keep things at a reasonable pace.  On one hand she is trying to be extremely nice and caring and on the other....she's watching your butt.  I'm sure she feels the connection just like you and I'm sure a little part of her wants to make sure that your going to be a "good boy" while your there and not try to hook up with anyone else.

Also....it wouldn't be out of line and it would even be nice to bring her mother a gift also, If you are really thinking she could be the one.  It doesn't have to be expensive, but the gesture would probably be worth a million bucks to her and her mother.

Like FT said....if your not feeling the all consuming fire yet for her...I'd stay at a hotel because if your kinda unsure at this point then you don't want to build her hopes up too much.  One that I know is clean and affordable is Hotel Majestic.  I've stayed there several times myself.

Ray,

I was talking with one of my amiga's last night who I have known for 3 years( were just friends)..

She said a girl would like pretty scented body powder and small perfumes like Utopia Cowboy mentioned...

Oh yeah... She said even if you get the simplest gift for her mom she will adore you to no end.. She says this is a big big thing to show respect and a little kindness to her mom.. This will touch your girl more then any present you can get her she said..

Hope this helps..

Thank you guy's i am staying in a hotel and i will going to the house for a few dinners and to meet her mother and then i will go to her grand mothers house. She wants me to meet both of them i will also spend time with her daughter. I will buy a few small bottles of perfume and i will give one to her mother and her grand mother. i am going to buy a nice doll for her daughter and something nice and simple for her.
she has many thing planned for the 2 of us and she has paid for things in advance already. So i will take it slow and see what happens i do believe she is the one i just want to meet everyone in her life and i want to see how she is around her family. this will be important to me i have a very large Italian family.

She sounds wonderful. Here's hoping that the chemistry is right once you meet in person. If it is, watch out! ;D ;D
