Lago Calima is about 1 1/2 - 2 hours from Cali (depending on traffic). Not sure of the exact directions, but it was the road in front of Chipechape (facing the mall, go right) and you just keep going thru the industrial sections and make a few turns here and there. Not sure because I had a private driver take me. When I was there, it was the off season, and not many people were around. If you have the right connections or know people, there are many things to do. Mainly:water sports-fishing, jet skis, boating, wind surfing, etc I think the lake is a family get away spot. You bring your own party. I do not know anyone at the lake, I just rented a private house and spent quality time with my novia. Chek out the link at
www.lagocalima.net I think the the public information site is
www.lagocalima.com I didn't feel in danger at the lake, but getting there and back is an adventure. I stopped midway for drinks and a snack and people looked at me like I was from Mars! Don't even get me started on the traffic! CRAZY! Imagine a two land highway being utilized as a four lane, no speed limit, and being stuck behind a caravan of 5 semi tucks climbing hills at a snails pace. All that and people passing and not yeilding the right of way, mopeds and motorcycles whose drivers have no fear, and the occasional pothole that covers the entire road! Thats everything in a nut shell.
Overall, I liked the Lake.
