Hola,

So I am sitting here partially packing getting ready for my trip to Colombia.  I am getting more excited about this trip.  I have met what appears to be some really solid girls off of a couple sites.  amigos, colombian cupid etc.  This trip is a little different than ones I normally take.  It will be more of a little free lance than using an agency.  Although I paid to use ADC I am not actually looking at it as a highlight of the trip anymore.  I don't know if it is in light of all the negative talk about it here lately or just that I have some great girls to meet already.  Probably a little of both.  I am still a dummy for not learning Spanish yet.  SO I will be there for about 30 days, and I don't think that is enough time.  I can't wait to get back to the culture that I like so much.  So different than ours.  The music, the food, and just plain friendly people.  If anyone is going to be in Barranquilla and Cartagena during 10 July - 6 August and wanna meet up over a beer that would be cool.  My email is bigstew33@gmail.com.    Hold down the fort while I am gone.  Peace

Since you mentioned you haven't learned Spanish yet...

Are you planning to have a (female) translator available during the time you're not using ADC?

I highly recommend this.  You've got a great opportunity since you'll have 30 days, but you'll miss so much in communication with the girls if language is a barrier. 

Non-verbal communication works well to establish chemistry, but it doens't give (as) much insight into the aspirations, dreams, goals, background, thought patterns, etc.

You could negotiate with Jamie on translators while in BAQ, and Maybe Mark (or another agency) could provide you a female translator while you're in Cartagena.

Yes I do have a female translator.  I have used her on both previous trips.  Yes I agree about the language barrier.  I constantly ask my translator how she feels about what she said, and how she said it. etc.   But in most cases you can tell if a girl likes you by body language, and her actions.

From what you just said, I reckon you and the translator have come to an agreement? What I mean is are her 'reflections' or 'intuition' included in her services or just 'she said.......' straight up translation? Looks like you've settled that, I'm mostly posting this to give other guys something to 'heads up' on (i.e establish BEFOREHAND if you expect the translator to do that or not). Have a good trip.

Much success on your trip! I agree with many others on here about the knowing spanish part. After my first time going down there a few years ago, and having to use a translator, I just felt the need to learn spanish on my own, because using a translator to me was so impersonal. I used pimsleur 1,2 and 3. along with rosetta stone, and learned enough where I didn't need a translator. Enjoy.
