What do you consider sincere signs of interest (early letter writing stage)?

Most of the naysayers are actually right and the odds of a guy writing a woman and then actually following through all the way are fairly small. 

I think for the smaller cities, i.e. Buga, Armenia, etc the chances are even less the guy will follow thru with a visit.
