i stayed at the aparta hotel torres poblado a few times...it is ok...good location and reasonable at the time . i misplaced the contact info - check with Gary Bala. Dann Carlton is another option. Nice pool
Red Bull may give you wings, but if Flakes could fly - BAQ is in fact an airport

Dan, it has been a couple years since i was in mde. Another option is the playboy penthouse. i hear it is a super nice place but caters to players....I have not seen their new location but have met the owners a couple times recently in cali - cool guys. have fun!!

Playboy Penthouse.... now THAT'S  a place to meet a nice latina that doesn't ask for money, trade sex for money, sleep with a local guy while dating a gringo!

yeah baby!

If you want a decent place you can look to Laureles.

I stayed once at Laureles 70, which was very decent for the money.  And there was a modern looking hotel Mediterraneo (I don't remember if it had 1 or 2 R's) a block away.  The area is very nice, close to a university, and very walkable, since it is reasonably flat.

Whatever you chose, do NOT stay at Inter.  It is somewhat remote, is difficult to get out on foot, overpriced, and mattresses are extremely hard (well, actually the latter could be a good thing depending on what will be your primary activity on that mattress ;-), and if you bring a girl to the pool there, it has a major status brownies for her, which should translate into some tangible rewards for you.

But if you want a good value in a safe place, stick to Laureles.  If you are interested, the pics for Laureles 70 and contact info is on page on Medellin at www.virtualtourist.com.  (Medellin is listed there under dept of Magdalena for some reason.)  Mediterraneo you could find by searching google.  I saw pics on its site, and it seems quite nice.

Hope this helps.

Thanks el_ruso, I will check it out, I have already ruled out the intercontinental for some of the reasons you mentioned.

I would stay within walking distance of Parque LLeras and the 2 best hotels are the Dan Carlton and the Park 10 Hotel.  The Dan always has coupons found almost everywhere and in most airplanes offering rooms for about $70 and that includes a great breakfast buffett, super nice pool with outdoor gym and spa. Get a massage from Leidy and you won't regret it.  Park 10 rates about $75 - super nice and quiet.
