It brings back fond memories of my first trip to Japan about 30 years ago. I was in Himeji for 6 weeks buying chain to be used on a shiplift platform in Batangas Bay PI. It was autumn in Japan and the farmers burning the rice chaff after the harvest added a surreal scent to the air, kind of like burning leaves in fall in the midwest when I was a kid. The Himeji castle is probably the most famous in Japan and has been used in countless movies. You may remember it as the castle used in the mini-series Shogun. I've probably visited over a dozen castles in Japan, from near riuns to fully restored. None seem to even approach the feudal Japan feel of the Himeji Castle. It's quite a place.
