Do Americans need a visa to get into Costa rica?  Canadians don't and I would just assume it would be the same?

As for vietnam, when I travelled to Asian countries in the past, Vietnam not one of them, I applied for the visa, went for a long lunch and got my visa in the afternoon.  For Panama, no clue.

Montrealer,

Each country is specific as to where they can go visa free. As a Canadian you can pretty easily go to Cuba, an American cannot go there without a ton of paperwork and a very good reason.

Best bet is to check with the government of your country to see what they require as far as visas are concerned.

Actually, for visa requirements, it would be best to check with a consulate of the country you wish to visit.

For a Vietnamese visa, you have to download an application form over the web, mail it to a consulate along with a money order, your passport and a return Fedex/DHL packing slip.  At one time they gave out visas at the airport but I think that practice has been discontinued.

I sent mine Fedex to the consulate in DC.  I don't know if they or any other consulates take walk-ins.

I just applied today for the visa in Panama and flying there Wed. My thoughts are to fly to Vietnam on the 21st. I'd love to hear from anyone with experience in Nam.
