We will be on the west coast next month and decided to do another trip to the PI - we just came back a few weeks ago.
The booking is through Malaysia Airlines but the travel is on Cathay Pacific - SFO to HKG $1,559 round trip for 3 passengers. The HK to Manila leg is taken care of with miles.

Sounds expensive, but I'm sure you looked for the best rate/arrangement. Factor in adding the cost of flying from a smaller city on the south east USA coast to LAX or SFO, then adding on again the HK to Manila leg and it appears it's well north of two thousand dollars for 'economy' for us. Then, we have the extra leg to Davao--the last of 7000+ islands to the south! And this is typically the cheapest time to fly, I think! Fuel hasn't gone up that much, what gives? Seems not so long ago, people were doing it for $1700, $1800....
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

Expensive?  ???

$1,559 is the TOTAL price for 3 passengers - NOT each passenger.

That is one heck of a good price especially your flying on the best Asian Airlines (Cathay Pacific) - The 2014 Airline of the Year..
You can pay that price alone for 1 passenger.

Ah so--price for three from SFO to HK, about $520 each w/ taxes etc. Sounds better. They are charging full price for the toddler? Thieves....

Ummm, Just about all airlines charge full fare for a kid who occupy their own seat. NOT talking about a lap child.

For children between 2-11, airlines would typically charge you anywhere between 50% to 100% of the adult fare

FYI,  we are not paying full fare for the kid - more like 85%.

I dont know if I want to jump in this either but to answer the original question call Claire at Wendu poroperties she is a broker of condos and apartments all over and around Metro Manila. With a little effort she can put near mall of Asia were everything would be easy and conveinant. Tell her dewey sent you and she will give you a break. Most condos there rent from anywhere under a 100usd to 45usd. Some even have restos inside them. If not you can order almost anything over the phone.
