C1 tranist visa - marriage certificate requirements
« on: September 10, 2013, 11:50:51 PM »
I am from downunder. My wife is Colombian. We were married in the Bahamas.
I am in Australia. She is in Colombia.
She is relocating to live with me in Australia.
It would be cheaper for her to transit through the USA on her way to her new life in Australia.
She needs a C1 transit visa from USA to do that.

We are having some problems with this application because the whole process is set up for Colombians who would need to return to Colombia. Obviously that does not apply.

In the list of documents they say she needs:

"If the marriage took place abroad it must be registered in Colombia. The copy of the folios must have been issued within the last 3 months and must have been notarized."WTF???
How could we register our Bahamas marriage in Colombia?
That doesn't make any sence. Is it even possible?
Why would Colombia register marriages that occured in other countries? WTF?? Is Colombia the Interpol of marriages or something?

I don't live in Colombia and my wife is leaving the country.

Our marriage is recogonised in Australia. Surely the USA is more likely to recognise a Bahamas marriage than Colombia. Why the F@@@ would the USA require Colombia to register a English language marriage certificate from a Commonwealth country a few miles off shore from Floria? WTF???

I don't want to pay the $160 C1 visa  fee if they expect us to piss around over pointless and meaningless bureaucratic processes to this extreme. It's only a transit visa for a few hours to reach her destination.
Where do I go to clarify this before I waste any more time / money?

If it were me...I would do whatever I had to do to get my woman to my country as soon as possible...I wouldn't bother going through the states if it is a hassle and going to cause further delays...I would just pay the extra amount even if it were 1000 more...just to get it over with and get her to me....you are probably going to have to bite a lot of financial bullets going forward, so I would just warm up to the idea and get some early practice!

Fathertime, your comments are ringing true to me. Further delay and uncertainty also has a big price.

well man, I'm glad that the comments ring true for  you...my feeling is anytime you can throw money at a problem and solve it, that is an easy fix comparatively speaking...other things money can't fix and those can be tougher.

sounds like you are close now, so good luck,

You were right Fathertime, I couldn't be bothered with the USA tranist visa bollocks. In the end I found another no fuss route as cheap or cheaper anyway.

The message is loud and clear - the USA government hates tourists. I finally get it.

Travel to the US has become a monumental pain since 9/11 ... sadly and ironically the terrorists accomplished way more than they could ever have dreamed possible.

Good like trying to get your Marriage in Bahamas registered in colombia.. I had the same thing with a marriage n Trinidad, and unless you go back to the Island and get it notarized in the Colombian Consulate in Bahamas.. its near impossible..which is OK in my case, cuz it wasn't registered in Colombia or legal there so made it so much easier when I dumped the unfaithful Puta Perra interessada harpia canchuda bitch!! ;D ;D
