Dumb question but just gotta ask...
« on: February 19, 2013, 09:30:24 PM »
I have a colombiana from BAQ saying that she thinks its possible for her to aquire a visa to visit the states.  In the past I have heard that there is no way other than a fiancee visa.  Has there been any changes that I dont know about?  Any info appreciated.

Don't let that be an excuse for you not to go visit her first if you haven't. No harm in her applying.... she obviously shouldn't let on she is novio hunting in the states.

She may ask you for some fincial assitance to apply. Don't send money unless you have met her in person.

Not saying every woman who comes to the USA from another nation wants to stay here, but I'd advise anyone who's bringing a lady friend here to be careful and to minimize possible liabilities.

Personal liability varies acording to the type of visa, but we were at a social event last weekend and my wife mentioned people there who stayed in the USA after their planned marriage didn't materialize (fiancee visa--the guy can be put on the hook), people who'd been brought in on two year hotel worker visas and decided to not go home, instead go underground  after the two years was up and so on.

If they're going to give someone a tourist visa, chances are pretty good that they have to have sizable assets back home that they stand to lose if they decide not to return as planned, So as pointed out, I'd question the necessity to give financial aid to such a person.
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

I agree with V-Man. Sounds fishy to me. The average Costeña knows little if anything about what's required to get a visitors visa to the United States. I can almost guarantee you a request for financial assistance to get the visa is coming very soon.

It is possible.  One of my Latina lady friends did visit me here in the USA.  She is a Federal Prosecutor so I thought that might have made a difference.  I never grilled her about her VISA, we were to busy having a good time.  She stayed for 10 days.

I'm a bachelor so she cooked and organized/cleaned my house.  Because I had some motorcycle parts, golf clubs, and a compound bow & arrows in my living room.  She felt the need to reorganize my house - LOL.  So all the cool stuff had to go to the basement or garage.  Chicks are just plain funny no matter where they come from.  She did say she was impressed on how clean things were - but she had to move the sporting goods outta the living room.  When I lived in Colorado I had to wax my skis in my living room because my place was so small.  Her head would have spun around like the Exorcist if she had seen that mess.

It's called a tourist visa.  If she qualifies for one on her own, great.  If she asks for your assistance in obtaining it, run and don't look back.

thanks for the advice everyone,  I forgot to mention that I have met this girl in person before and we have been in touch for atleast 5 years.   It seems to me that if she were able to in fact get the tourist visa that I should alteast pay for the flight here and back, and all expenses while she is here.

If that's the way you want to do it, then have her pay for her own Plane ticket and then reimburse her after she gets here. Have her use her own funds to process the visa application also.

Note: If she can't show enough financial assets to pay for her trip, then she likely won't be approved for a visa anyway.
