Chile
« on: June 10, 2012, 06:43:00 PM »
I have only spent a little time in Chile so please take the following observations with a huge grain of salt. It's only my first impressions.

Chile is a developed country. It has developed in a latin way so it is still different to a western developed country but not that different. If you are careful with your money Chile can be as low as half the cost of things in other developed countries but that is still much more expensive than other latin countries. There is a dramatic difference between Chile and countries to the north in many ways.
The people tend to look more European and they definately act more European.
I would like to live in Chile for a little while. I liked the climate, the safety and the developed world standards. There are many things to see and do.

OK so I know what you really want to know about are the women.
I don't feel that I meet enough to make many generalizations. I like the European look that many have. They have the same latin openess about sexual things while still being outwardly 'proper' that I like. There is a perception that they don't have as much passion as Colombians and Brazillians. I didn't meet enough to say either way but this could be true. There is a certain relaxed air about things. One thing that is quite noticable is that they don't preen themselves like Colombianas do. They do not make half as much effort to look glamorous. There isn't half as many beauty salons. It shows as you walk down the street. Also as a gringo, you are nothing super special. You are just not that exotic. You are going to have to have more in your favour than that. This also means that there are not many women looking for a ticket out. Out of what exactly? So you see this works both ways. You are much more likely to find a middle class, well educated women who speaks English and has travelled. If that's what you want, there are a lot more of them. My inital impression is that most have not been overly feminised. They still expect men to be men.

Please note there are seedy parts of Chile and not everyone has the same living standards. These are just some very broad generalisations.

So not much to go on I realise.
I like the country. It is more expensive and more European in flavour. It is more relaxed. The women are less glamorous and have a good future in their own country.
I'd like to get to know it much better. Many of these inital impressions could prove to be either quite wrong or understated.

Anyone lived there or stayed for a decent time?

A friend of mine is married to a young Chilena. Everything that you've said matches my impressions of her and her country. She speaks excellent English.

V_Man,

Thanks for sharing. Great insight into a country that gets little to no attention on the gringo radar. I have friends in Rio that go there often to ski often and they speak very highly of the country and the people. I'm no skier and probably never will be but Chile is definitely on the bucket list.

Peru was a very interesting country to visit. I'd be happy to go back there. In Lima I satyed in Mira Flores which is one of the most up market areas. Lima is a big city and not really my thing to be honest. However obviously in any big city there are thousands of single woemn. I don't feel qualified to tell you much about the women but there are at least two members on here who are married to Peruvians.

I'd love to. In fact I'm tryng to figure out how I could pass through there in December.
Of course if my novia thought I was hooking up with another single guy to check out women in Lima she would have more than a few quiet words to say about the idea. Actually a few quiet words is not generally how latinas react to that sort of suggestion. In fact I may as well light a fuse and run for cover.  ;D
So although I'll probably be there I don't expect to stay long unless my novia is with me.
