My second trip to Pinoy land
« on: March 08, 2012, 12:51:44 PM »
Well for one thing I will say at the beginning its getting easier. I learn as I go so to speak. My flight started in Kansas City and went to Chicoago then from Chicoago to Japan. From Japan I flew into Manilla. I actually spent the night in Manilla, when I purchased my trip in January I did not take in consideration that there were no flights going to Davao after 930pm.

Some more learning,, I was pretty much spent anyway so I spent the night in Manilla at the Best Western. It was actually across the street from the American conselit. I am not sure but I think it was Makita City. It was 25 minutes from the airport. All I know is that it may come in handy some day just knowing where it is. The hotel itself was clean and it had wifi and was aircondtioned. The breakfast was pretty good and they actually had brewed coffee.

Next day on my wat to Davao City I kinda dreaded this part because I had a terrible time the last time when I got a local flight to Cebu. I did really well except my carry on was heavy and I got into about 5 lines trying to repay and get reciepts. I learned from it and bought a over weight bag excepton on line. If you do so when you purchase the ticket its less than half the price also. ( Cebu Pacific Airlines) A short 2 hour flight and my lady was waiting patiently for me to arrive.

We stayed in communication with each other with the phone I bought there the last time. She sent me a sims card in a letter before I left. I di get a guy at the coffe shop in Mailla to help set it up the phone was so cheap I actually forgot how to text on it. I found out later that the guy was gay OMG that will be a discussion for another post. I will say this I cannot tell them from a skinny girl, my lady told me that most of them are better looking than the ladies. My lady is very fortunate her plumbing is the right kind. I am not sure how I would act if I got down there and thier was a kick stand. I can see why some men were fooled into going there to meet a beautifull young lady and it turned out to be a male.

OMG lets move on ... her and I found a taxi and went hotel in Davao and rested and caught up. The next day we took another taxi ride to the boat that took us to the Pearl Farm resort. More water travel it was peacefull after the ride we received from the Dale Earnhardt pinoy equivelant, that took us there. My lady being a supervisor of a sales staff of a wholesale garment company told the driver to hurry - because we running late. OMG when we got there all I wanted to do was just get down on all fours and kiss the ground. He was running red lights passing on both sides cutting down side streets going over curves and slaming on the brakes. I was so glad I had a light breakfast. I will share a observation here and now when he ran the lights and did something wrong he would bless himself I guess in a way that helps LOL. I could see my self trying to exsplain that to a state cop.

The boat ride was nice and we arrived. The place is simply gorgeous for couples not a big family place. We had some meals and a nice swim- very nice we will go back! The next day we went Paradise Island I really like Paradise the room wasn't quite as nice but very comfortable the resort was great they keep the sand there well maintained. No swimming pools but the water was clear and the food was pretty good. Coffee sucked but it was probably the only bad part. They did have a three piece band there with a stand up bass I really liked. They played alot of old 60's and 50's stuff. It was a welcome break to some of the stuff they like and listen to thier. I like to think of here as fat girl music. Trust me my lady sang along to almost every fat girl song too LOL. I think kareoke is a national sport there.

Day four we wnt to the third resort and my ladies helper/house keeper brought her 2 girls to meet us at the Blue Jazz resort. I was not so impressed with the resort but it was still very nice. Noisy dam place though. They have these jungle drums they play there when people come in and out I could of done with out them. I did like the fire dancers that night and the coffee was a little better and like I said I got to meet her daughters for the first time. Actually it was the purpose of my trip. They are both teenagers and very respectfull and polite. So we alll stayed together in the room and had a breakfast and left the next day. The girls went one way and her mother and I stayed in a freinds condo. About a week before I left my lady sold her house. It was a five bedroom house and she will now look for anoither smaller one. She told me with the equitty she made off the house she will be able to purchase a smaller one out right.

Her and I slowly moving towards her coming here. The condo in Davao was nice the AC was a little small but with the help of the fan you were looking for cover at night. We exsplored Davao ate at many resturants and met some more of the family. I did meet her mother and father which pretty much full filled my requirments for the trip. I actually had a hard time with the father trying to speak to him. He only knew manderine and I pretty much only know spanish and english.

But him and I did get along. The sisters and I got along great there english was very good. They are all either salesmans are some kind of reps for different companies. I know my lady has been a chef and a medical rep for Mead Johnson also. So I would say they are at least high middle income people for Davao. Most had cars and all had helpers. That would be a graet discussion in its self. So Leizl and I spent 3 days in Davao then we both took the plane back to Manilla for our last 3 days together. The same lady that owned the condo in Davao also owned a condo in Manilla so that is where we stayed there. Ann the lady that owned the condos also owns clubs in Japan and Los Angeles also. I did pay her 36usd to for each day which I thought was a bargain.

It was really hard to leave my lady I do love her but we are  both sensible and we both know the cost of quick decision so we wait we learn. We don't exspect things to happen over night and there are more than just the two of us involved here. Ray and Robert have both been a big help to her and I. So for  now we learn listen and prepare slowly.

Ok to cut this short for now I had a great time many things I will share and will try and feild as many questions as possible. All I know is this after 30 hours of flying and 4 connections my ass hurts and I will rest. You know your home when the flight from KC from San Fran has the stewards of the rest home in your community waiting on you on a Frontier flight, LOL ......dewey4350

Good report Dewey!

So did her dad approve? Having her siblings on your side always helps.

I think you guys are very wise to take things slowly.

P.S.  PLEASE don't get Dave H. started again on the lady boys!   ;D

Nice Report Dewey,

They sound like nice folks. I figured Davao City and Paradise Beach to be more your speed and style--it suits us fine too. My brother in law's thinking about packing up the family in Makati, Manila and moving back to Davao. Even though it's bigger and with more people than Cebu City, Davao City just feels smaller and more livable to us--and typhoons are very, very rare there due to some quirks in geography. The people seem less in a hurry and more friendly to me in Davao City and I never sensed any hostility between Muslims and non Muslims--did you feel safe too? In fact, I feel safer there than I do in most cities of 2 or 3 million here in the USA. I guess you saw a lot of begging kids last time, so you were used to that.

Manila's a whole different story--just too much of everything. The Mall of Asia, the bayfront, Glorietta Mall, Greenbelt and a few other places are nice, but that city is really crowded and has issues overall, me thinks.

Paradise Beach is 'native' enough to be interesting, but it has some conveniences like clean bathing and toilet facilities--it's a pretty good place for laying back and relaxing on the cheap--cold beer, soda--even the food's decent the water's real clear and pretty most days too. As I recall--the bands they have in the center part of the beach seem almost like a Filipino version of a low end Mexican band, singing popular western pop--sort of cheesey but after a few beers, everyone's into it.

Never been to The 'world famous' Pearl Farm, but we'll probably check it out sometime. Back from Island Garden of Samal's Pearl Farm & Paradise Beach and back in Davao City (it's neat that the island's so close to the city but so different)--did you get to Jack's Ridge? It's a little touristy maybe, but the views of the city at night are great and the restaurants have great atmosphere too. Eat at Banoks, Dencio's or Pico Bella?

If you know how to shop, you can get a decent little house in Davao for about 30K--not in a gated community that's full of mostly westerners, but safe, with cable, air con, on high and dry land and still close--but not TOO close to pretty much everything--Paradise Beach, Hospitals, Malls, etc.

Are the ladies they have working all over the malls there cute or what? Lots of sweet, pretty faces all over there really and to me, they seem a lot more sincere than some places in Manila. If I was a young, single buck, with a male running partner to break the ice with the local ladies--who rarely travel alone--or maybe even solo, I'd be over there in a heartbeat. It's expensive and tiring to get there, but it's pretty inexpensive and relaxing once your there, eh?

Get over that jet lag and fill us in when you're up to it!

BTW--I was just kidding when I said bring me back some mangos.... ;D
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

Sweet!!!  Nice report Dewey.

I was think the same thing, oh boy, as soon as Dave H reads this, here we go.  ;D

My wife would sometimes comment to me about the pics her my wife's nieces/nephews & their college friends post on facebook and would say "bakla".  And on a few of them I couldn't tell the the difference. I would ask her how do she know the difference and she would reply "I know because I am Filipino and you don't because you are American".  ::)

One thing I would say is that some of the baklas have gorgeous (real) female friends.   :P

If we were all forced to wear a warning label, what would yours say?

Yes, a lot of beautiful babes--'real' females, count gay guys as their best friends and confidants and not just gays who are hairdressers. I see a good bit of it here in the states too.
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

Fag hags? It's been my experience that few are beautiful - or even attractive. Must be a different community on the East Coast. Out here they're like Margaret Cho:

My Leizl, she talks to any body even the gays. I probably talked to some of them and didn't even know. I have a hard time telling them over there. Over here its a different story i even have a hard time calling them gays. My language here for them I can't print. While we were at Paradise Island we ventured to the bat caves it was sort of tourist venue close to the resort. We had a skinny unattractive lady give us the tour. To make a long story short my lady told me she was a gay guy after we left and was back in the taxi. OMG- like I said I can not tell. Usually the voice will tip me, but not with him. He had told Leizl that he had a boyfriend that was Swiss and they were to be married soon. Europeans LOL

Very nice trip report.

On my visit I pretty much stayed in Manila.  Did a day trip to Tagaytay with my girls family.  On my next trip, I will adventure out to some other places.
