Holiday Shopping
« on: November 21, 2011, 09:55:14 AM »
The x-mas season is upon us again.

My holiday shopping is already done & have been shipped to the PI - they should receive the BBs in another 2 weeks or so. Anything I buy now will be held for later.

For those who haven't shopped yet/lost/undecided, this is to help you. Courtesy of SD.  ;D
http://www.dealsvista.com/deal/black-friday-2011-excel-spreadsheet/55152
Just sort the category as to what you are looking for.

No need to be out there in the cold - a lot of sale items are available online and many of the stores offer free shipping.

I see the following laptops which can be given as gifts to the folks in the PI or SA. I am planning on getting the Lenovo but I am also waiting to see what Dell will offer.

Lenovo 15.6", 2GB DDR3 Memory, 250GB Hard Drive Laptop (model# G575-438343U)- $179.99 @BB.
Compaq Presario AMD Dual-Core Laptop - AMD C-50 processor / 15.6" screen / 2GB memory / 250GB hard drive (model# CQ57-318M) - $198 @Wally.
Gateway 15.6" Laptop w/ AMD A4-3400m Processor, 4GB RAM, 320GB Hard-drive (model# NV55s17u) - $299.99 @OD.
Acer Aspire One 10.1" Netbook w/ 1GB Memory & 250GB Hard Drive (model# AOD255E-13492)- $157 @Target.

For tablets, I see an Asus Transformer 10.1" 16GB for $249.99 @BB. Good price and it can be upgraded to ICS.

Personally, I am holding out for another Dell Streak 7 & Samsong Galaxy Tab 10.1 - unlock it, put a sim card in and use it as a both a tablet & cell phone (texting).

Dell currently have a good promotion going on.
http://www.dell.com/us/p/dell-holiday-gifts?~ck=mn
You get Photoshop/Premiere Elements 9 AND your choice of Canon Powershot Elph 100HS (you can upgrade to the 300HS for $30) + 8x8 Shutterfly Photo Book  or instead of the camera you chosse a $125 AMEX Gift card.
That is not just for the products on that page but for any over $649.
Adding coupon 4J4XPNDZ1PKR2B will take off an other $50 off.

Also, you can buy a $75 promotional egift card for every $400 gift card you buy - so for $400 you get $475 to spend.

So if they buy a  laptop/PC on sale for $649; it will end up being $649 - $50 - $75 = $524, PLUS you get Photoshop, te photobook and the Canon camera or $125 Amex GC.

Just trying to help with the holiday shopping.  ;)

I'm not 100% postive, but can't you pnly use $400 of the gift card you pay $475 for on one purchase and then use the 'free' $75 on another purchase? Is it still taking quite a while (up to 24 hours) to get the $400--$475 GC)?

It'd be great if only we could get the card immedietely and apply $475. There are some other good Dell coupon codes out there too, but all too often, Dell doesn't let you 'stack' them.
Anywhich way, there's some good deals to be had on desktops and laptops--Kfc--you let SD outta the bag!
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

Just wait until you get the cards then use them both together or use them separately - your choice.

You cannot stack the coupons but you can combine gift cards to make a purchase - Dell allows up to 3 form of payment per transaction/order.

Man, not sure I would spend money on another AMD laptop. Unless they've changed things pretty dramatically, their processors are really not geared towards what 99% of people use their laptops for. Go for an Intel i3...they use a new chipset which is a pretty big thing for most laptops. That would last a lot longer and not much more expensive. I've got my eyes on a 17" acer aspire with i3 and a pretty decent independent video card...around $500...pretty impressive computer for that price. We got an Asus 15.6" with i3 for my wife that's really solid a month ago or so. Very good warranty too. Around $440.

There are AMD processors that will be good for basic everyday needs but if you want gaming or the likes then go with the Intel.

I have  i3 on my lappys & an i5 on my desktop and I am eyeing the i7-965 for a price drop. I already have a DX58SO motherboard that can/will support it.  8)
