Short Term Immigration for a Colombiana - what is easy?
« on: November 19, 2011, 08:45:54 AM »
Assume that I have a female friend with no particular wealth of status, and I want to take her to ...

Lima; or
Buenos Aires; or
France; or
Spain; or
Egypt

what are the limitations?

I am with the understanding that once a person travels to certain countries it becomes increasingly easy for that person to travel more freely.   Perhaps others have answers for this already?

I think in  most cases/countries, if you have an established track record of traveling abroad and returning w/o anything unusual, things only get easier. Seems that as my passport got more stamps, getting through immigration/customs only got easier--almost an 'Oh--you again', kind of vibe.

In some countries, just like getting your first job, it's the first time that's the hardest. Seems they all want people with 'experience' and are a bit more leery of newcomers.
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

Just for the record, "immigration" is not short term. It's more of a permanent move to a new country.

I think you are referring to a visitor or tourist visa.

If a single female with no appreciable assets or solid roots is from a country that has an overall poor record of complying with the terms of temporary visas, then it is often extremely difficult to obtain a tourist visa.

It really depends on the countries involved and the individual circumstances.

But most countries welcome tourists who have money to spend and yes, a prior record of compliant overseas travel is usually very helpful.

peru, argintina and egypt will give a colombian a tourist visa for 30-60 days upon entry, basically the stamp we americans take for granted when we travel anywhere we want. France and spain are EU, so they would require a visa also, which has to be applied for.

I would say Peru and Argentina will be easier and cheaper, too.  Egypt, in case you didn't notice, is currently in turmoil.  Also, I would be reluctant to take a woman there even if it was stable.

You can take her to Thailand - easy to get in I assume, very cheap, and a really nice and exotic place to visit.

And yes, the more visas she has acquired, the less scrutiny she will be receiving.  She still will have to show money on her account (you can help her with that if you trust her enough), get a letter from somebody stating that she is employed there.  If she can show that she is a bona fide traveler, that she always returns back to Colombia, it will be major, huge point in her favor, but not a guarantee.
