Anytime you marry someone from far away, you're going to have some transference of language and other cultural tidbits as well. Have you picked up any phrases from your wife or has she adopted some of yours? I would think that Asian or Latin, there's some of this going on...

I remember the first time I swore 'around' my wife--we were on-line, on cam and she did not like it one bit and she told me so--called me right out, much to my surprise. I kind of thought up to that point, that I could do no wrong by her.
Having been around a number of Filipinas for over two decades, maybe the one swear word/s that's pretty well known and used by Filipinas is 'BULLSH!T'. I have found that they don't use it in a way that infers being as angry as most Americans--that it doesn't have the same impact as it does typically when used by Yankees. It's used more matter of factly by Filipinos--as if it's not really a 'naughty' expression.

When I get really pissed in a short period of time, I use the time honored expression 'sh!t on a shingle!!', ( takes me about 1.2 seconds to bark it out) which although my wife really didn't know what a 'shingle' was before she came here, she thought was sort of cute, and after I explained, it became part of our private lexicon. Never heard her say it outside the house however.

Another expression that she has adopted and shared with a couple friends is expounding on the word 'ugly', by prefacing in with an 'f'--a in "F_ _ _ing" ugly--but saying 'That's really "FUGLY". Other than to explain it to her two best friends, who also got some giggles out of it, I can't recall her using the 'F' word in anger. I could see her and her friends commenting on some draperies, perhaps on a homely dog though, maybe, for example saying --"Oh--that poor dog is sooo 'fugly'. I couldn't imagine them using the phrase in reference to a person though.

Sometimes, when I notice she's becoming a bit 'Americanized', I will comment on that and how I feel that it's not such a great thing. She sometimes replies: "I have had a great teacher-->YOU--you have taught me many bad things" sometimes followed with: "Don't forget--I am (she says with a slightly wicked, yet sweet smile) an American BEEETCH now--ha ha".

Thank goodness, so far she isn't!

Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

I am not married to any Fillipinas nor ever had girlfriends with any of them, but have spoken to many of them while searching in CB in the past.   Most of the quotes I received was  "It's up to you"   ;D

Must have rubbed off on Taiwanese. I botched a batch of buttercream frosting but thankfully was able to re-purpose it as part of hot buttered rum. Good stuff....

Do you add any spice to your hot buttered rum?
We usually add nutmeg.

We made it during x-mas time along with Sorrell, Rum Cake, Rum Punch and a few others.  :-X

I read this years ago but I've forgotten who to attribute the quote to..

"Hot buttered rum; it makes a married man see double and act single."

I add cloves, cinnamon, and chili powder. If I make a bigger batch I'll simmer some water with the butter, sugar, whole cloves, and cinnamon sticks then strain the cinnamon and cloves out. If it's just a cup at a time I'd use them all powdered...makes it so you can't drink the last sip or two if you use powdered spices.

My wife hates butter normally, but liked the buttered rum and her favorite ice cream has butter in it....guess in small amounts it's ok....
