Colombia has the fifth worst reputation in the world, said a recent poll measuring Group of 8 (G8) citizens’ perception of 50 countries around the world.
In the annual Country RepTrak poll, Colombia was awarded a score of 37.08 out of 100 by citizens of the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Canada, Russia, and Japan
The survey measured participants' trust, esteem, admiration and good impression of 50 countries.
According to newspaper El Espectador, Colombia scored the lowest of all Latin American countries. Colombia’s reputation ranks just below Angola and higher than only Nigeria, Pakistan, Iran and Iraq.
The country with the worst reputation in the world is Iraq, which received a score of 21.78.
Canada was ranked as the country with the best reputation, receiving a score of 74.76, followed by Sweden, Australia, Switzerland and New Zealand. Of Latin American countries, Brazil scored the highest.
According to the Reputation Institute, which conducts the survey every year, “the solid reputation of these countries is attributed to high levels of democracy, wealth per capita, the welfare state and neutrality in international conflicts.”
Overall, this year’s poll reflected an average decrease in the reputation of countries worldwide.
