200K

That is a Gringo Sucker Price. You can get a 2BR, 1500 SQ Ft in the Manta area on the beach for half that or less. I see them all the time come available for 60-80K.International Living and shows like that are a rip off. best be an informed and educated buyer and stay away from those type of Brokers.

Just as a reasonably intelligent buyer would do in the US before forking over $200,000 it is important to get an appraisal before buying property in South America. In Colombia it is called an "avaluo" and to find a reputable company go to any bank that gives home loans, "hipotecas" and ask who they use. Colombians for example are notorious for picking fantasy numbers out of a hat when they come up with asking prices for real estate and cars.

well duhhhhhh, its a tv show, what do you expect, $ 50,000 ???:P

of course im sure you could find something cheaper, the point was, its still pretty cheap, even at $ 200,000  right on the beach and a new bldg, and the cost of living there is really cheap and a lot safer than colombia or brazil.

I can buy an oceanfront condo in Myrtle Beach right on the beach for 125K, so I do not see where 200K is cheap in any country
