Just wanted to say hello. I've been lurking on the board for while, trying to absorb all the wisdom from the veterans here. I'm 37 single, no kids and haven't traveled in Latin America at all. I'm a sucker for the latina look though so I'm looking to do some traveling in the not too distant future. In the mean time I'm working on my Spanish, and funding for the trip.


Thanks for putting all your experiences up on the board. It's definitely interesting reading for a newbie like myself.

Hey Scott, you are doing the right thing by preparing with basic Spanish and the $$.  After you get it somewhat together, you should go for it asap.    Do you have any immediate plans as to when and where you are going to go?

No firm plans yet on where I'll go. Most likely Colombia, but which city I'm not certain. I'm still debating whether use an agency or not. If I decide to go it alone then probably Medellín, but every time I think I've come closer to a decision I see a gal that knocks my socks off in a different city and I'm lost again. I also might not mind being near a beach for a while. I can't get much further away from those than I am now.

Scott, I have been to Cali, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Bucaramanga, Bogota, Medellin, and Santa Marta and would say that Barranquilla is the best place to start,( IMO). And although you might hear otherwise, I think Jamie's place is the best place in BAQ. Even if you do not find many "hot" girls there on his site, pick some that are borderline, and you will be amazed when you meet them in person.

That is my advice.

Hey Scott!
If you do decide to go it alone, you should try to find a 'go to' person or two.  If your Spanish is shaky and you don't know anybody, it wouldn't be a great idea to be totally solo.  On my first trip to Colombia I used ACG (All Colombian Girls) and although they don't follow through with all the gals on their site, they were quite a bit better than nothing.  That was in 2004, after a trip or two and as your Spanish improves, you will get more and more comfortable. 


If going to Barranquilla, Jamie's business is very good.


Now if you find a gal you feel real good about beforehand and decide to visit her exclusively, than that is another animal, but I still think having some local contacts is a smart move.  You just don't know how things will go down between you and anybody you meet on the internet and there are a lot of dishonest gals and guys out there that won't have your best interest on their mind.

Thank you for the advice. I will probably use Jamie's service my first time there. It sure is fun to browse colombian cupid and imagine all the different possibilities though. Kid in a candy store syndrome sets in quickly.
