Yep, very likely. AAdvantage elite status levels can be "earned" in one of three ways; points, miles or segments ~ aka "flying".

I have status on AA but I have not flown with them in the past year. My miles are earned via Citi CC or promotions. The only "flying" mileage points that I earned with AA was when I purchase my ticket on AA for travel on CX ~ I got both AA & Asia Miles. Also it was not a codeshared flight.

Rob if you log into your AAdvantage account and under "Current Elite Status Qualification" and you will see your Elite status...if any.
