The supporting documents that I sent in were:

Copy of marriage certificate
Wedding & honeymoon pictures
Pictures of us together & with her family
YM chat logs
Telephone chat logs
Text message logs
Copy of hotel bill for honeymoon
Copy of airplane tickets to honeymoon
Copy of receipts for all gifts I sent
copy of receipts of all items that I mailed/sent to her.
Copy of receipts of the money I sent to her to pay for wedding, rentals, etc.
If we were all forced to wear a warning label, what would yours say?

well uncle Ray ;D
according to the USCIS instructions for form I-130 under "WHAT DOCUMENTS DO YOU NEED TO PROVE A FAMILY RELATIONSHIP"

It states the following..............

a copy of marriage certificate..........got it

passport style color photos of myself & my wife .........got em

compleated form G325a for me & my wife ........got those to

in addition they ask for one of the following

Documentation showing joint ownership of property.......she's not here yet so, no can do ....yet

A lease showing joint tenancy of a common residence OR    ( i have no leases i own my house)

documentation showing co-mingling of financial resources OR  (except for ATM withdrawls in Manila don't have any)

Birth certificates of children born to you the petitioner, & your spouse OR  (don't have any kids)

AFFIDAVITS SWORN TO OR AFFIRMED BY THIRD PARTYS HAVING PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE BONA FIDES OF THE MARITAL RELATIONSHIP

this is why i sent in THREE copy's of affidavits from primary wedding sponsors

Well piggy, it seems that you left one key item from the I-130 instructions out of your post…

J. Any other relevant documentation to establish that there is an ongoing marital union.

See kfc’s reply for examples. I can’t think of ANYONE who submitted affidavits with the I-130 petition. You wasted time getting affidavits, which is fine for you. But you should not now be expecting any kind of special treatment in the way of “expediting” your petition. That was my whole point…  :P

I gave an affidavit for a friend going through this process.  He was required to provide more than one.  His wife was already living in the states, so it was easy for me to testify that they were living in a genuine married relationship and provide some details as to how I knew it.

Piglett followed the instructions, so why give him a hard time?  It certainly does not appear to be a "waste of time" to follow the directions given to him.

The Pigster is being cautious - he is trying to cover every base & angle.

As for me, I didn't send in (or considered sending in) any affidavits because I thought that I had enough supporting evidence to establish a bonafide relationship.

First, that IS NOT my quote!

Nobody is giving him a hard time for filing affidavits with his petition.

If you read my post again, you will notice that I was only giving him a hard time because he was talking about getting the visa appointment “expedited”. This after he waited 4-5 months to file the petition.

Pig was the one complaining about the delays, the I-130 instructions, the slow people back in the Philippines, etc., etc., etc…  The pig was the one complaining that getting the affidavits took extra time when in fact they were not a requirement but only an option. If he would have done his homework in advance then he could have avoided most all of these delays, which were actually his fault, not the government’s or anyone else’s. So all the whining about the process being a pain in the ass is just useless nonsense as far as I’m concerned. Contrast his whining with kfc who did his homework and patiently waits his turn in line.

I always get a kick out of the folks who try to get their immigration process “expedited”. If he were able to get his visa appointment moved up, keep in mind that the good people ahead of him, like kfc, would effectively have their appointments pushed back. Is that fair? HELL NO!

Our case is completed - it took 4 months from initial filing to completion.
I am now waiting for NVC to schedule us an appointment - hopefully January as December scheduling is already closed.

All of the documents have been processed by NVC already? WOW! Four months is pretty fast.

Did she have to take the CFO seminar before they issued her a new passport. When my wife changed her passport to her married name, they had her complete the CFO stuff first before they issued the new passport.

Good luck with the interview and hopefully everything will go smoothly.

Thanks Ray.

Yep, we through both USCIS & NVC - initial filing to case complete in 4 months, we are now waiting for NVC to schedule the interview.

No, Ahya did not have to take the CFO seminar before she amended her passport. We thought that she would have had to take the CFO seminar first but when she made the appointment to amend her passport, they told her that she only need her current passport, Marriage Certificate, the application & the fee - the CFO seminar wasn't needed.....yet.

She and a lot of people got their passport about a week late due to "technical difficulties" at DFA. She finally got it yesterday.

She will take the medical at St. Lukes sometime next month.

The last thing on her list to do is take the CFO seminar.

A note about affidavits:

When the USCIS asks for “Affidavits by third parties having personal knowledge of the bona fides of the marital relationship”, what are they really looking for?

They are looking for third parties who can affirm that the couple is living together as husband & wife and that their marriage appears to be genuine. Sponsors at your wedding are NOT usually in a position to affirm this information, but are only witnesses to the fact that there was a wedding ceremony. The sponsors at a Filipino wedding probably already signed the marriage certificate as witnesses at the wedding ceremony.

In piglett’s case, wedding sponsors are not in a position to affirm a valid marriage relationship because the couple is not living together as husband and wife while they are awaiting the visa processing.

Will including such affidavits affect your petition negatively? No. Will including such affidavits affect your petition positively? Probably not.

Affidavits attesting to the validity of your marriage would be appropriate in case of a Petition to Remove the Conditions of Residence (I-751) for example, or in the case of an I-130 petition for someone you married here in the States, but not of value in a case where the signatories to the petition have no personal knowledge of an ongoing marital union.
