Hey Raycjs, I think this week or very soon they are going to be traveling to Colombia on a couple of the episodes. The last episode I watched he already had bought the tickets. Should be pretty good! Hey thanks again for all the good advice you gave me before.

It's a great show on it's own, but especially funny if you like Colombia.

Lot's of Colombian/gringo stereotypes:

* the hot younger Colombian woman married to old, fat (but wealthy) gringo
* the colombiana's ex-husband is a deadbeat
* she lived in a poor village, killed rats with a shovel, drove her car into donkeys (twice)
* etc, etc

But like all stereotypes, there are big elements of truth.

From what I hear, the Colombian episodes will be filmed in Categena, and Al Pacino might play Gloria's father. Imagine that- he will be like an older version of Tony Montana with his accent and all. This is not written in stone yet, but I hope they do this.

From what my wife tells me, Sofia Vergara is pissing off some of the Colombian people. Modern Family does not air in Colombia, but the Colombian media has made statements like "Sofia is achieving huge fame and fortune in the USA at the expense of making Colombia look bad." I don't think that is her fault because she is only reading her lines and she doesn't write her own material, but I must say that America's misconception about Colombia really stands out on the show "Modern Family". In addition to the stereotypes listed above, here are some more:

1. Cooked pig intestines is a favorite dish in Colombia.
2. Most Colombian people do drugs like cocaine and marijuana.
3. Colombia is a crime-infested country where no place is safe.

My wife says that most Colombians don't like pig intestines. Only a small group of people like that dish. We all know that most Colombians don't do drugs and couldn't afford them if they wanted to use them. We also know that the big Colombian cities are safe even for gringos. I would feel more unsafe walking through south Chicago than Bogota or Cali.

Regardless, my wife and I watch the show every week and love it. We try to look past all of the stupid misconceptions about Colombia and just enjoy the show.

Negative stereotypes are unfortunate anywhere but this show is certainly entertaining and Sofia is sweet eye candy indeed. Few other shows have won Emmy awards in their first seasons.
