Scott Pilgrim vs. the World [spoilers]
« on: August 22, 2010, 05:10:35 PM »
Ok, I just saw the movie in the title.  It has a good example of the difference between American and Asian women.  It's sort of a live-action-animation-video-game movie so takes a little getting used to.  But...

The main character starts off the movie having a very cute (and a bit silly) Chinese girlfriend, but breaks up with her to chase the nutty American slut with a bunch of crazy exes (both male and female).

In the end he ends up with the American, and the chinese girl goes along with it just to make him happy.

I thought it was a very interesting look at the dynamic.

Spoiler alert.

The "hero" Scott is dating this cute Chinese girl (the young & lovely Ellen Wong), he is not "really" interested in her but she have the hot for him.
He meet the girl of his dream (AW), he "dump" the Asian lady to pursue his "new" lady. But she have 7 evil exes & he must defeat them all in order to "win" the AW. So instead of telling the AW that she is carrying/have too much excess baggage - he decide to "fight" the exes to win her.

And in the end, he goes with the AW and the Asian lady goes along with it, just to make him happy - even after he admitted he cheated on both of them.

I saw a screener a few weeks back so I am not sure if they changed anything from the version I saw.

That's pretty much it in the wiki page.

Doesn't look worth the current local ticket price of $11 ($10.50 for a matinee!).  Wouldn't even waste the band-width to torrent it for free.  :P  Would rather see Kickass.

I should be able to see the movie in the Philippines soon for a $1. I go to the movies just to eat the popcorn!

Mary Elizabeth Winstead (plays the mysterious American girl named Ramona Flowers) is part Filipino.
