do 1-134 affidavit of support need to be notorized?
« on: January 21, 2010, 07:21:46 PM »
Went to USCIS website. They said the new form (1-134) does not need to be notorized. However,my fiance met a Filippino in Manilla. She looked over the paperwork I sent. She said I needed to have it notorized. Not sure what to do now. Her interview is on the 26th of Jan. Afriad they will now reject my 1-134 form, and we will have to start all over again. Any advice would be appreciated.

No, the I-134 no longer needs to be notorized. The new form doesn't even have a section for notarization like the old (and now obsolete) version did.

Unfortunately, these ladies are forever getting bad advice and bum info from other Filipinos.

You would be wise to advise her to not pay any attention to others offering advice, because 9 times out of 10 it will be bogus. She will be under enough stress as it is.

There is no requirement to have the I-134 notarized and the instructions very clearly state this.

Note: You may also want to remind her that your personal financial information is a private matter and is not to be shared with others. Privacy is not a very big concern in the Philippines as it is here.

Good luck with the interview process!
