Hello everyone!
« on: January 17, 2010, 01:00:16 AM »
wow, so many pinned topics, for a minute I thought the board was dead! it's been a while and I have no real good news, it's only been a bit over a year since I started my search but I am starting to think online search is not for me, I'll be honest, at some point I even started to doubt if I should be looking at all.

But I still think there is a guy out there for me and that he might need a little help to find me, so I'll just take a different approach  ;D

Nothing is written in stone yet but I am seriously considering an english course, pronunciation has always been a problem for me anyways (get stuck sometimes specially when I am nervous or feeling shy) so maybe I'll spend a month in Tucson, why there you might ask yourself? I have family there so it will cut down costs and my family will have peace of mind.

After that, depending on how it goes I would go back to the states in the summer, this time for a TESOL course (yes I know, the blind leading the blind! haha) it seems I could get a job abroad from there so that sounds really nice.

So how have you guys been? any big news I missed?

If you can visit up here that's great and will probably improve your chances dramatically. A little hot in the summer down there but I suppose you're used to that :P.

Your written English is better than many posters here, haha. I think you'll do fine with the English classes but from what I've read it sounds like the foreign language schools typically want native speakers. If you haven't already you may want to look into whether there are schools in your area that hire English teachers who speak it as a second language.

@piglett: not sure yet, in about 2 months probably for the english course

@jm21-2: lol yes, I doubt the summer is hotter than some parts of Mexico I've been!

The longest I've been in the states was for a long weekend visiting my aunt in CA and since I was still very young I had no contact with anyone except cousins who all speak spanish, the short trips I usually go to with my parents to San Diego do  not allow me to interact with people (other than salesmen) and when I do it's usually in spanish.

So I like to think it would be like a light version of an immersion program :) I actually want the TESOL course to teach english over here (they will not hire me without at least that diploma) if the overseas job was possible that would be great, a very nice girl I met in Mexico city was the one to tell me about this course, she had just come back from China (she was Mexican) so I know the job abroad is not impossible, either way I would have an excuse to go back to the states for a second course at some point :)

Go for it :)! There should be plenty of guys who would kill for a girl like you, but might be intimidated by the distance while you're in Mexico. Smart, beautiful, and adventurous is a rare combination. Don't sell yourself short.

Welcome back IV. Quite frankly, I am surprised that you haven't hooked up with someone yet. I'm sure that there are a lot of men interested in you. I know how frustrating it can be. You have to sift through a lot of bad apples before meeting a potential keeper. But I wouldn't give up on the internet just yet. I know of a lot of happily married couples who met via the web.

:O is there any wedding pictures? I love wedding pictures! haha I'm so corny  :D

I have met 2 guys from online and there was just no chemistry with one (in fact I still think he might have been gay!) and the other one I took the risk to meet before getting to know him online and it gave me the impression he just wanted to have some "fun" so it was a really short date, might not sound like much for someone that has been looking for a year but I am really picky and I've chatted with many guys.

There is still this one guy I chat with that I am very curious about, I would like to meet him but I remember someone warning me about guys that chat and chat for years with no real intentions of meeting the girl, I think he might be one of those either that or he is afraid to meet, he had never considered dating someone outside his country before.

I guess I could still use internet to look in Tucson before I get there, I am just no longer interested in chatting for ages and get my hopes up if that makes sense, there are too many men out there that are not serious.

InnocentVixen, I agree that many men out there are not serious, especially those that are under 30.  Most of my friends are around my age...25-28, and many don't seem to be ready for anything long term yet.  Maybe it's a California thing because people in the south get married younger.  Also, although my friends don't really criticize my long-distance relationship, they've told me that they're not willing to look for a girl beyond local grounds -- basically the girl has to be within a 25-50 mile radius of where my friend lives.

I think long-distance relationships can be painful and tough so people shy away.  I really think it does take something special between two people to maintain a long-distance (esp. international) relationship.

yes, I've noticed that distance is a real problem for most, even if the distance is not so great, about the age, it looks like I am more attracted to men somewhere between 35-38 it seems and while some do sound like they are ready for long term (but with a local girl) you'd be surprised how many still think like your friends!

I like to try to stay positive, after all not many girls out there can actually visit so it's not like I would let the man do all the effort, but it IS a big effort so hopefully I will find someone who believes it's worth it as much as I do :)

 Hi IV,

Glad to see you are still trying but sorry nothing has panned out for you yet. I heard this somewhere that, "There is a button for every shirt." So I hope you can sew yourself on to your shirt soon! ;)
It might be possible that you find someone in your TESOL class. Some really nice-looking guy trying to do the same thing as you are. That would be kinda cool I think!
Anyway, I obviously have no real advice other than it's better to wait for the right one than just grabbing onto to anyone. You have to believe that he is out there, but you just haven't found him yet.

Good luck, :)

Definitely stay positive. Your written English is excellent(I thought you were a native), pronunciation should be fairly easy for you to overcome with a bit of practice. A woman as stunning as yourself should have no problem meeting people once you get out there!

aww thanks Pivery, it's the first time I hear that saying, it's kind of cute... except if you think that most shirts have more than one button then that is not very cute  :P

and Woody, is that you on your avatar? if that is you will have no problem finding someone, you must be spoiled for choice!

Welcome back InnocentVixen!! Hang in there.I waited quite a while before I found my wife and when I did I still didn't rush into anything. There were times when I didn't think it would ever happen for me but it did and I couldn't be happier.

Yes, that pic is about a month old, taken at the Keystone ski resort in Colorado(I snowboard every weekend, just finished a 4-day trip). We'll (hopefully, still waiting on the final approval from work) see how spoiled I am for choice in about 45 days. I'll be spending the month of March in Medellin. No matter what, I will have a blast! Skydiving, paragliding, parasailing, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, you name it.

I am dumbfounded that an incredible babe like InnocentVixen is not attached yet. I guess it just goes to show men are intimidated by intelligent women.

I am very sure that the lovely and exceptional InnocentVixen will probably still give it some thought even if she happens to meet a gentleman worthy of her! No need tossing pearls before swine when there have to be a few stallions left in this miserable world! Glad to see you back, IV! Take your time, and don't let anyone tell you differently!

I think jksun hit it.  IV, if I'm not mistaken, is from B.C., so I'd imagine that a lot of the guys she's encountering are just players from California, not a large enough group of serious-minded men.  Plus, I think she's a girl with taste and won't settle for just any guy who proposes.  It'll just take time.
