Philippine housing market
« on: July 20, 2009, 02:22:04 PM »
I read a couple of days ago that the housing market in most of the Philippines is on the rise and has been for the past few years. I will say I did see a lot of new construction while I was there but I had assumed like the rest of the world that the housing market was falling there as well. But I was wrong.

I also read where monies from OFW was at the highest level in history. But they still said it looked bad because the increase wasn't as high as they had expected.

The overseas demand for Filipino professionals especially medical personnel has been increasing. Saudi Arabia just asked for 4000 more nurses.

just wanted your thoughts on this.

When I was in Manila in February, I was approached by several nice-looking young ladies handing out sales flyers for brand new high-rise condos.  These condos can be had for less than $20K.  They were not very big by US standards but the facilities and amenities were very modern.  These highrises are going up all over Manila.

finding rental property in Cagayan De Oro is like pulling teeth, but there seems to me tons of nice houses for sale there.

Hi Heruamen,

I am east of CDO. Rental properties, new housing developments, and land are everywhere here. CDO is a popular area (jobs). I have been told that there are a lot of forclosures on relatively new houses in developlments. I don't know much about rental property there. I will ask a relative, who used to work for a developer there, about rentals.  Look for "apartments." Many are what we would call "townhouses."

Hey Swisskid,

The low cost, new high rises  in the Manila area have gotten my attention. I was thinking about getting a studio or 1 bedroom unit for when I fly into the country or have business in Manila. But I really spend too little time there to make it worth while. It would be unavailable for personal use if I was to rent it, as some people have suggested.

Hi piglett,

A "Planet-Love Timeshare."  ;D It sounds like an idea whose time has come. You will have to count me out. I'm done with condo associations, big cities, and towering infernos! I'm thinking of a live aboard, helium filled super blimp!
