Help......info needed and a little hand holding too
« on: November 19, 2008, 05:00:18 PM »
Okay guys need some info here. I sent my application for I29f and was recieved at vermont center.  On september 9th was received on sept12.  Heres where i get confused I used an attorney [same one Ray used} no problem there.  WHen I check timeline that week it says 6months.  There are couple other people with same date and center.  Now today I check and it says March 7.  Heres my question and statement.  How acurate is this sight and my attorney says  do not listen to what people say on VJ but the timeline i saw was on the USCIS sight, not on the VJ sight.

anyone else deal with this?

Those processing times shown on the CIS site do not indicate how long cases are taking to process, but only their “target date” to complete processing. In plain English, they are saying “don’t call us unless your receipt date is before the listed date”.

I would ignore the CIS processing times. Your best indication of actual processing times is from other petitioners’ actual recent experiences.

First; it wasn't necessary to hire an attorney. The extra money you paid is not going to make the process go any faster. Lo siento. I am sure you did all of the leg work of getting the photos and gathering the necessary info. I did mine myself. It took about 6 - 7 months. I picked the wrong girl; but that is a different story.

i used a lawyer for the same reason i am really busy at work and the cost to hire and have my lawyer handle this for me made my life easier and maybe i got lucky but i had my wife here in Florida in 5 months and 20 days start to finish. Our interview in Colombia lasted about 70 Min's start to finish and they asked us both one question each. We where out of the interview and heading back to our hotel before 9:00am. So i have to say that my lawyer must have done something right because nobody can understand how my process went so fast.

Our lawyer is now handling the green card process for my wife and our daughter and all i have to do is sit back and wait for our next interview in Miami in a few months. I am not telling anyone to use or not use a lawyer i am just telling you that if you find a good one it is well Worth the money and believe me there are more good lawyers out there then bad.

Jeff hang in there and your girl will be here sooner then you think.

I wish you the best of luck

There wasn't any hocus pocus involved in getting your woman here other than the fact that you chose wisely and the wasn't any obvious gimmicks involved as your woman was truly happy and appreciative of you choosing to shoulder the responsibility of a young child, and I am sure that translated well during the interview. Where guys ed up having to go through drama is in picking someone younger than 25 and they are 40 or above and that is just rife with possible get overs on both sides. Especially when the woman is obviously unprepared for knowing what she is getting into unless she has an ulterior motive. Not saying that it can't happen, just expect complications. It is normal without any missteps for the process to take (give or take) around 6 months start to finish. If the paperwork is done correctly, there shouldn't be any problems. The next step is the interview, and at that point if you have chosen wisely, then again, it should go smoothly. The people at the embassy are looking out for YOU as much as the woman, and if you go in there and aren't sure, or have chosen poorly (whether you can see it or not) they can pick up on that.
