Question For Experienced Colombian Cupid Users
« on: June 17, 2011, 06:38:06 PM »
Just signed up with it and trying to figure out how it works. I see it is just as accessible to Colombian guys as it is to gringos. I also see that the vast, vast majority of Colombians have "standard" membership which I gather means they have not paid anything to CC so can not generate contacts with women on the site. So what is their deal? Will they just wait for some cuchibarbi who´s paid up to contact them with an "interest" or "mail"  or have they found a way around the system?

Jim, there is no waya round the system.

if a man doesnt pay, he can t initiate chats or send messages to women who are standard members.....

there arE only two ways a man who hasnt paid......can contact a woman.

1. she s a paid member, he can contact her at any time...and of course she can initiate contact with him.  and most of them are NOT chuchibarbies.....
2. a woman somewhere in the text of her profile slips in her private email address. Thats very rare.

Good luck!
Dennis

Guys, be careful of the scammers from Ghana on ColombiaCupid. they will send you IM's while you are online and start their pitch. A word of warning. Just drop and block the IM. Dead giveaway is the IM originates in Rome, Italy but the scammer sez she if from Ghana. Move on when you see that.

My guess is that most of the men on the Cupid site are just there out of curiosity and want to browse the women's profiles but not pay any money. They aren't seriously looking to be able to contact anyone. They can sent Interest Winks and if the woman is interested she can wink back, then it takes only a moment for the man to pay the fee and become a Gold member which enables them to initiate contacts. This is pretty self defeating. I tried it for a month and got almost no contacts, whereas with a paid membership I get anywhere from 2 to 10 new contacts each day.
Another thing that happens is if you are a paid member and let your membership expire you automatically become Standard Member and your profile stays visible forever or until you take it down manually.
This enables Cupid to claim a huge number of "members" even though a huge number  of the members are "Standard" and may not have visited the site for years. To see how this can work, do a search for 35 year old woman in Medellin active within 1 month. You will get a couple hundred hits. Then do a search for a 35 year old woman in Medellin without any time limitation and you will get 1000 hits, which is as high as their counter goes. I daresay there are many, many thousands of profiles on Cupid that haven't been active for a long time but they still make up a large percentage of the 18 million members Cupid claims to have.

Ditto BtB!    I just had that happen about an hour ago.  let's see profile says one location, she (he) mentions Ghana, mentions recently deceased father, asks if i have a yahoo account.  oh and to top it off when i asked early what the #1 thing they were looking for in a relationship.  the answer was "honesty."  go figure, scammer knew exactly what they were doing.  reported and blocked.
i called them out on it and they were like, what!??

any way.
I've been looking around CC and LAC as a free member.  thought i would give a try, because of the good press it has received here in the forum.   I've been impressed.  So many beautiful women.  Not like american sites that i've been on.

AndyLee,  I'm wondering what you meant by.

I tried it for a month and got almost no contacts, whereas with a paid membership I get anywhere from 2 to 10 new contacts each day.

By contacts do you mean, chats, emails, or contact info, or ??
I've shown "interest" in some and received some back.  Which is enough to prove to me it's worth trying out a paid membership for a month or two.  As a paid member are the percentages higher for women even showing interest?

I'm also wondering how to write a great profile.  maybe play around with pics to see which type will get noticed.

I tried being a Standard Member for a month to see how the results compared to being a Gold Member. As a Standard Member I got very few Interest Winks from women contacting me first, and when I sent out Interest Winks to contact them first I got very few responses. The only reason I would recommend someone be a Standard Member is to browse the site initially and get familiar with how it works.

Your second question, "How to write a good profile"
One of the most successful men's profiles in Colombia right now is Dennis Levy. ask him if he will share his profile page with you.
Or, go to Latin American Cupid and look at my profile 63 year old man in Pereira, Andy. I've had very good success with this profile which I use interchangeably on Latin American Cupid and on Colombia Cupid. I'm actually inactive on both Cupids now because I"m in a committed relationship with a woman I met on Colombian Cupid two years ago and renewed our friendship two months ago.
One BIG tip for searching men's profiles if you are a man........click on the "hide my profile" button before you start looking at other men. If you show up in their "read your profile" column and they see you are a man some of them will flip out.
When you read other men's profiles keep a list of things you like and what you dislike about other men's profiles. Pretty quick you'll have your profile template nailed down. Be sure to search men in your age category, too. It is different what you will say if you are 20 or 30 something compared to what you will say if you are 50 or 60 something.
Some of the things I see men post make me cringe. One grizzle haired dude is wearing a tee shirt with a lightening bolt and "Strike First" which is a slogan for war, not love. Many, many, many of the pictures men use are terrible. Totally unflattering.
If they post 5 pictures and their main profile picture shows a full head of brown hair and the back up photos are balding and grey that's a tip off that probably other things in his profile aren't honest and up to date either.
I recommend at least 5 photos: Close up of your best facial profile to use as the main profile photo. Another facial photo with something different, like a cap if you wear one, or a white shirt and tie. A full body shot in good clothes but don't wear a suit and tie unless it is part of your normal dress. A full body shot in relaxed clothes but not junky, ripped or lousy art. Another full body shot doing something you love as a hobby like hiking, fishing or working out or jogging.
Things to steer away from are sun glasses even if you are at the beach. You want the girls to see your eyes well enough they can read your expression and attitude. Don't wear black, period.
Lose weight if you are fat. You don't want to date a fat woman, so do you really thing the women want to date a fat man? I lost 60 pounds in 6 months and my love life improved tremendously.
Dye your hair if you are grizzled and gray, it will make you look ten years younger (remember that many of the women in these sites dye their hair, too).
No group photos. She might like your friends better, or your friends might be weird looking and ugly or older than you and detract from your own appearance.
No pictures with other women, or body parts of other women draped around your neck. Not seemly. Same thing with booze and tobacco, don't show it unless you want to attract it. For the moment cover your tatoos. Talk about them later after you've had the ice breaker.
No topless or other overexposure, even if you are at the beach or in the pool. If you want to show off your physique use a well fitted shirt and a flattering pose, not over sexed or over suggestive.
No group photos of you and your kids. Save those until later in the relationship. She might be turned off by pictures of your teenage brats, especially if they have on scruffy tee shirts with obscene words. You may think your kids are cute but she will not be impressed unless they really are cute and lovable looking.
My last and most important recommendation is be honest. Be honest with your profile descriptions and be honest with your photos. There is no advantage to telling a big lie or two and then having to remember and defend that lie later when you are trying to develop a relationship with a cute chick.
One of the best compliments ever paid to me is to be told I look better in person than I do in my photos.
If you are unhappy change something. Quit your job. Move. Leave your miserable relationship. Stop making excuses. You are in control.

That goes for Dominicancupid.com also. They have the same people who will IM you while you are on. They don't have a profile photo, but will try to get your yahoo email address to send you a phony one. These people aren't to bright. Even though the site warns you about the Ghana scam when you access the site, these dummies will still say they are from Ghana instead of changing their country of origin.

If a girl IMs me and says she is in Ghana at the moment I will ask her what city and then say by tremendous coincidence I will be there next week and lets hook up. I IMed a girl who sent me an interest but whose profile was not visible. I told her I´d like to see your profile and she said ok I´ll activate it and she did. If you want to generate interest in your profile include the word "generoso" in your self description.

JimD, you can easily smoke out the scammers from Ghana because you speak Spanish and I doubt that they do.

It really does amaze me that these girls tell you they're from Ghana.   Any semi intelligent American guy or other western nationality, should have at least some sense this is a scam!   I'm pretty naive generally speaking but even I could tell what was coming so I just said goodbye and, "NEXT" as DL says!

I've had some success on both LAC and CC.    I think it could be a hidden jewel of a website if your stars are all lined up as are hers!

Just my 2 cents....

One could always try www.latinlovesearch.com it is free to join and use, and there is no blocking of e-mail addresses, plus it has it's own chat room. One can utilize private chatting there.

I think you can be suspicious if the "member overview" is in English and there is no "original Spanish version".
