I don't drive a lot, so I don't fill up my tank often. Went to fill it up today, saw the prices, and just about shat my pants. Even if the prices fell by 30-50 cents, they'd still be high.

Bear,
The gas prices should be going down for two main reasons.  1)  Saudi Arabia has announced it is going to dramatically increase production.  2)  With the slow down in the US economy, futures speculators believe people will be cutting back on travel.

Nerd Alert:
I just read an article in "Popular Mechanics" (April 2008 issue) that a company called Coskata has found a way to make ethanol work.  I'm from Iowa and can tell you first hand that corn-based ethanol (at this point) is a complete waste.  This new company has found a way to make ethanol out of any carbon-rich source, such as old tires, for less than $1 per gallon.  They are building a processing plant in Illinois that should be cranking out 100 million gallons by 2011.  So, it might be time to think of getting an E85 vehicle.

I saw some pictures of some cars recently that got somewhere in the neighborhood of 200mpg.  They were very light and aerodynamic.  They seated 2 adults and one child.  These cars are going to be on the market late this year for around 30k.  If I remember right the manufacturer is going to set a governor around 90mpg since the car can flip over at higher speeds.

If we are going to continue driving so much perhaps this is a good option for savings for single drivers or couples, just so long as the cars are safe.

Don't need no stinkin' gasoline ...this car runs on AIR !

Now, how can the government tax air? Unless the government can tax the fuel (compressed air), the government won't permit this solution to exist in America !

In Europe next year, for about $8,000  ...in a couple years this thing might be usable for city driving

xcited is right on target, Saudis increase production and slow down in US economy = lower prices at the pump.
