Information on Costa Rica
« on: October 03, 2007, 01:25:34 PM »
Does anyone have any info on Costa Rica or Costa Ricans for that matter in regards to good partners. My best friends family is from their and they seem like happy people, and pretty down to earth. There do not seem to be alot of agencies but you see many women on amigos.com and various other sites.

Does anyone have any info, or has anyone been.

My daughter is a Peace Corps volunteer in Costa Rica. She's been there about 8 months and from the sounds of it, Colombia may be a better bet. A lot of people are relatively well off especially in San Jose. From land sales to gringos and tourist developments many people in the boonies have made money. However they are mired in a culture of petty thievery, violence,  alcohol addiction and general depression. To be sure she's in a remote area up near Nicaragua but it really sounds dismal to me. There is a lot of money floating around and opportunities for improvement but they just seem to be mired in quicksand in terms of their willingness to do anything about it. I plan on spending a few weeks there in February to check it out myself.

I believe that AFA (aforeignaffair.com) has a small sample of women from Costa Rica. I think that the population of that small country is about 4 million and maybe 1 million of that number is refugees from Nicaragua. That's an illegal alien problem that surpasses ours. This is according to what Ticas told me when I visited in February.
The national catch phrase of the country is "puda vida," (pure life) but I think that it should be "whatever." They seem pretty ambivalent to me.
