Things to to and see in the Pereira area?
« on: October 02, 2007, 11:27:14 PM »
Hi All,
Looking for some advice from the well traveled. I'm headed for several weeks in colombia, and I'm looking for any advice on what to see or do in the pereira, manizales, armenia area. Also any things to beware of or watch out for. I've been to colombia several times and speak spanish. I've got some girls lined up to meet, and plan to check out the agency in manizales.

Also looking for a wing man if anybody will be around. I'll be in cali and quilla as well, until 10 December.

Cheers,
WB

First, this area, Zona Cafeteria, is probably the most beautiful in Colombia.  The depatmentos(states) make up this area are Caldas, Quindío and Risaralda.

Big, relatively speaking, cities are   Armenia and Manizales with Pereira being the larges.  Of the three Manizales is my favorite. The zona rosa is where the action is and most of night clubs, discos, restaurants and coffee bars are located here.  Big university city and the chicas outnumer the men. Cable Plaza is also a hot disco area.  The main avenue, Santander, is loaded with discos and restaurants. Try the Bar C or Juan Sebastian Bar Out side the city is El Nevado Ruiz' at over 5.000 meters, with it's three volcanic formations. Early in morning is best time to view it as clouds then move in a make viewing difficult, but if you get up early you won't be disappointed. The mountains contain glaciers and it snows a lot up on mountain, where the temperature can be chilly make that cold, but the solitude and peace you'll experience up on mountain make all the inconvenience and difficulty in reaching it, worth it IMHO.

The hot water springs and resorts such as 'Termales del Otoño' and 'Termales del Santa Rosa' and 'Termales del Nevado' imn this area are very popular. Each contains not only hot pool where people come to soak and relax.  I would also add El Parque del Café as well if you're in the area. The colonization and history of the entire area is explained as well as all the details of growing and processing coffee. In addition it features a botanical area (bamboo forest, coffee plants, etc) and an amusement park but that was to Disneyland.

Pereira is where there is a ton of action-there is a saying in Colombia that if you are a gril from Pereira to sit down she will lie down.

Bed time but if there are more questions just ask.
