Ghost Town
« on: September 28, 2014, 01:39:49 AM »
Wow-

I have not been around this forum for a long time...and it seems totally dead.
What happened?

It does seem that restrictive use policies and over-regulation of posts and members has had its natural result...a dead site.

This used to be a popping place...now it should be renamed planet-love museum.

It has seemed to happen to all of the boards on this topic. I haven't been around enough to say its the moderation on this particular site. Being "Asian" and not a specific nationality based they seem to allow more discussion that is automatically banned other places. It is just not a full out monger friendly. I don't know if the monger sites are still up with police forces monitoring them but the expats sites seem to be the ones still going strong. As they seem to think that when we petition to cease to be Asian and become Asian American over time thus I guess we have little to add.

Everybody puts everybody else on "Ignore" and it looks like nobodys posting :D

Or maybe we are talking too much about "skanks" , "prepagos" , "gold diggers" , "Interesadas" and "dirty old farts" and we´re scaring everyone off..

Overall interest in this and related topics has not diminished, it has exploded, but this forum languishes. Obviously, the owner has been losing interest.

Americans are expatriating at record numbers and part of that equation is an interest in foreign women. I think the site and forum needs to be re-energized.

Additionally, why in the world would you want a limit on page views for guests? LOL. Sure, the thought is to encourage sign-ups, but extensive access is the best way to do that. It just comes across as unfriendly, and it REDUCES page views overall. Why would you want to do that with a site?

I remember way back when Patrick owned this site and it was a free-wheeling
site with large numbers of posts per day. Good posters generate free content for the site and keep people coming.

Hi Nathan with your point regarding the 'page view' limitation.  I think it was done in response to some troublemakers (perhaps myself included)..this was about 5 years ago....but at this point it does seem unnecessary.

I read through your posts, it sounds likes you were having a good run back when you used to post in 2006.  How's it going so many years later?

Hello-

Yes...times goes on..hard to believe, I have a 14 year-old girl and a 7 year-old son. We have been dividing our time between the Philippines and Oregon- my wife is in the Philippines now tending to some things for us. Time gives perspective...
and starting a family in my 40's and having kids was the BEST thing ever! I could not have custom ordered better kids.

It seems you might have some late kids yourself?

You can limit access without limiting page views. There are a huge number of
people who will be long time lurkers before they sign up IF you allow them.
That ends up being a strong viewer base and significantly bumps up ad responses.

Trolls can be controlled while still allowing others access.

Hi Nate,

It's good to hear from one of the old timers. Yeah, the old days on the forum were a lot of fun.

So that little girl of yours is 14 already? How time flies...

Ray-

Yes...hard for me to believe sometimes...she is not my "little" girl now...kind of
the young woman...home schooled, she participates in writing forums and is learning Japanese. She runs two gaming servers as a hobby. She is a blessing.

Yes...I don't know what other old timers are around here...the admin here seems pretty much invisible, compared to Patrick's active role that tended to stimulate
participation.

There is always someone on the board that seems to have heard everything!!!!!!!and there response is we have heard that over and over. Have you ever thought the new person hasn't heard? Old posts are old posts. If their here, they are  new to the newbie......It doesn't take long to be offended are discouraged. And by the way, just because your here doesn't make you right.

You are right- "old timers" who put down newbies who ask questions that might have been asked before, tend to drive away new participants.

There is a big difference between experienced coach and sneering know-it-all.

Wow, and it felt like I had been around these forums for ages!
When I found this place it wasn't very active, it was mostly the asian board attracting newbies, then it got a bit more lively but no, I don't think I ever saw it being super busy... good to know having a woman around was not what made posters uncomfortable and leave, I always wondered about that.

There has been a buch of marriages for all is worth, mine being one of them with one of the users here no less.

Did it used to be female posters  at all back in your day? and yes I know I am posting in the asian forums, they kind of blended after seeing so many guys go back and forth between asians and latinas or just posted in the latin forums for chat.

A few, not really that many. Every now and then some new lady would sign up and make a post or two, usually looking like they mistakenly thought this was a place to post their profile instead of a discussion board. There's a few of them still have their pictures in the gallery, one or two of them even have their children in the picture with them. I do remember one US lady, can't recall her name, who sponsored some Vietnamese man on a K-1 and he just used her for the visa and her money, he was really a low-life, I felt sorry for her. She hasn't been around in years, but she did have the guts to admit what happened instead of just disappearing.

You mean Lori? Interesting case... I think she ended up marrying an older American guy in her home town(?)

There used to be a few dumbasses on the forum who tried to proclaim this as a "men's forum", and attempted to run off any female who posted here. But we bitch-slapped them good...  ;D

Yeah, now that you've mentioned it, Lori was her name, thanks for reminding me. I hope things worked out well for her if she did marry the older local guy (if even if she didn't, I still hope things worked out for her).

That's pretty awful, I never came across any of Lori's posts and I did dig around the archives out of curiosity for a while.

Gladly everyone was friendly around here when I showed up, I actually DID thought this might be an all men's forums or at least the male section so I wondered in asking where was I supposed to post.

I also remember a few female posters showing up mostly trying to attract guys but not sharing much of an opinion or posting questions other than "why did he leave me?" and the sorts. I was so happy when BrazilianGirl showed up, I really enjoyed reading... I think it was Honey? Bear's wife? on the rare occasion she would post.

Oh oh and remember the lesbian looking for advice? haha, never figured out if she was a troll, if she wasn't I hope she didn't get scammed!

I sound like such an old lady  :-[ :-X
