Some very interesting reading on this subject, i can see what Papi's been getting at now,,, Use a good agency with lots of back up, wing it until you find a girl you (Think) you really like, then go home and hammer the Spanish lessions.

That was sorta my plan before Peru,,,,emmmm?? But i can see this is how you guys went around it, and found success.

neil

This is the last guy you should be listening to! He thinks a good agency is one he can beat down while posting here and force them to allow him to cherry pick the young girls for what ever he does with them. Then he disappears letting the agency owner to explain what that was all about.

There no reason why you cannot spend alittle time learning spanish, by your self one of those programs you can listen to in the car ect. You don't have to know everything but try to pick some spanish up. You would not believe how much it will help you in the end. If you are at one of those agencies and if they don't know you know some spanish in the end if something is wrong you sure will pick up on it instead of when she is here!

Neil, you have two options:

1. listen to the guys who tell you to sit on the sidelines and learn spanish

2. get on the plane and try again. take some lessons if you can and/or find a chica and send her to english classes. Again, I would recommend a better agency or tour operator in colombia, meet the girl of your dreams and send her to school.

the choice is yours man...it is not a simple road. you know that from the FSU

Yea papi I am telling him from the side lines, but what about you dude you posted here last month we were all right and you should learn spanish. Why don't you make your mind up instead of sprewing the same old song and dance. I might be on the side line but the difference between you and I are, (drum Roll) I am married to a beautiful Colombian woman who I met because I knew some spanish and did not pay the agencies a ton of money to do it for me. You? Still looking and struck out again!

Ok...I've been following this thread a bit and a little confused. What's so hard about learning Spanish? It's one of the easiest languages for English speakers to learn. My brother was fluent as a sophomore in high school. Sure, we grew up on this "bad, mexican" side of town, so we had a bit more exposure than some, but c'mon. I just do not see the difficulty in learning basic Spanish.

Why you should NOT rely on translators:

Raul (in Spanish) "We got shorted 8 kilos on yesterday's load. Ask him what he knows about that."

Pedro (in English) "The man wants to know what YOU know about somebody ripping him off"

Joe (in English, of course) "Ripping him off? Oh man, that's too bad. Whoa, wait a minute, he doesn't think that I had any thing to do with it? No sir, I respect him too much, I mean I would never....."

Pedro (in Spanish) "Says he doesn't know anything, wouldn't tell a scum bag like you even if he did."

Raul (in Spanish) "Tell that little worm if he wants to see his next birthday he'd better TALK"

Pedro (in English) "Look, you're just making him mad. Tell him who took his stuff"

Joe (in English) "Honest man, I'd tell if I knew anything, but I really don't. I just can't believe anybody's stupid enough to screw over you guys"

Pedro (in Spanish) "Big boys took the little baby's candy? Aint that just too too bad?  So what you gonna do about it? Nothing, that's what you're gonna do, little man."

Raul (pulls out a huge pistol, works the slide and puts the barrel an inch from Joe's nose and says in Spanish) "I'm sick of this jerking around. Tell him I mean BUSINESS and I want my stuff. NOW! No more screwing around"

Pedro (in English) "You better talk man, he's really pissed"

Joe (in English) "OK, OK, Look, I didn't take it, but I'll help you get it back. Sometimes you hear people talk, sometimes you don't even hear exactly who said what, know what I mean? But it's all down in the basement of that used furniture store, behind where they pile up all the old broken chairs. Just let me go now, PLEASE."

Pedro (in Spanish) "He says BS, you don't scare me, as36&^%! Your wh*&^%$ mother didn't raise any of her little bas#$%$ with enough huevos to pull a trigger."
