Mark, I was reading about your condo in CTG for rent. Sounds nice.

1. How much for 5 nights?
2. How much for daily maid service (i assume you have someone between clients)?
3. How do i find the place, etc?

depends what you want from a holiday, there isn't a lot to do in San Andres apart from beach/sea related things.

Ctg Apts
« Reply #3 on: April 01, 2007, 01:37:30 PM »
I have some apts in Ctg, I rent them through Michael and Dirk, below is the website:

http://www.colombiarental.net/

Prices depend on the time of the year, you can expect to pay $50 plus a day, it also depends on what apt.

If you want a maid each day, that would probably come in at about 15,000 pesos a day, although you would have to confirm that with the managers.

San Andres is rather dull but not too bad a place for a honeymoon where all you're going to do is screw 24x7.

Thanks! they look nice. I know Mark the agency owner has an apartment there too and waiting for him to post about it. I am up in the air at this point...need to see how things go when i get back to colombia. If things don't go well, i might just hang out in costa rica instead but keeping my fingers crossed. i think i got lucky this time but it is too early to tell. ka ka happens (especially to me)

Cartagena has a lot more to do and see.  I have not been to San Andres, but from what I know it only has a beach, and that's it.  I will get bored with it in less than a day; if I want to go to a beach, I can just drive a few miles.  The only thing, Cartagena is brutally hot.

I would go to Quito.  I don't think tickets from Colombia are expensive, and they do not need a visa, and Quito is BEAUTIFUL!  I absolutely loved that place, except that women are not that good looking in comparison to Colombia.  There are a lot of things to do there.

Try it you might like it! I am a great fan of a good meal, but you get used to it if you stick to it. My fast will conclude after tomorrow, but I now realize that I really don't need to eat anywhere near what I was eating before to get from day to day. I think I will go lo carb ala Atkins when it's over and just eat a small portion sin carbs only when I am truly hungry and only enough to kill the hunger...

i am far from a weight loss expert but you might consider the following:

1. there are good carbs with lower impact on blood suger (like fruit in the morning or oatmeal)
2. portion control is smart if you have the willpower which sounds like you do
3. most experts would not consider fasting healthy but you did it so congrats

I agree on Quito as i just returned from 2 weeks there. The Plaza Grande and old section are beautiful, just like CTG. The Telepetico(cablecar) is unreal. I would think you would have to go to the Swiss Alps to get a cablecar ride any higher up. Mitad DE Mundo, the Equator in other words is only about 40 minutes outside Quito. I will agree on the Women as there are some very homely ladies in that city, bu i thank God for looking out for me as my umm, yet to be announced, lady is just incredibly beautiful and on par with any Latina anywhere. I some some very beautiful women in the North of Quito as opposed to the south where more the Indian Population lives. Altitude bothered me this vist though as compared to December, but there was more rain and humidity this time.

I'll try the fruit and oatmeal after the first two weeks on the Atkins. If I am not mistaken, you have to go at least two weeks without carbs to reach ketosis (sp?) before you start to add small portions of carbs back into your diet...

I am not sure what I did was a true fast anyway. I just didn't "eat" anything. I still took vitamins and drank smoothies and vegetable juices.

KB,

the Pre-Colombian museum de Banco Central is also great.  It doesn't have as much gold as the one in Bogota, but it is a lot more informative.  I would not say that Quito looks like Cartagena, it is a lot newer (end of XIX century) and was built during rubber boom, but looks very good anyway.  Ecuador really impressed me in its cleanliness and organization, looks more like Europe than LA.  And it is VERY cheap, or at least was two years ago.  Steaks are great, and I really liked the llapingachos.  And it is definitely not hot in terms of climate.

Next to the Mitad del Mundo there's a huge crater with cloud forest, and you can do horseback riding there. literally through the clouds.  And there are market towns nearby, but I didn't have time to visit.  The most famous I believe is Otawalo.

Are women better looking in Guayaquil in your experience?

Soltero, that is correct. 2 week induction at 20 grams of carbs per day or less. True Atkins followers would not add fruit/oatmeal early in the diet. there are 3 stages...you can read about it on atkins.com. However, there was a cover story in Time a few years ago that said atkins got it half right...he forgot about the low gylcemic carbs which later spawned the south beach diet, zone diet, etc. In my opinion, Atkins in not healthy but a way to kick start things. Now I suppose we can back to Ruskies trip to quito

I must respectfully disagree. We spent several days in Guayaquil and I was stunned at the lack of hot looking chicas. I really expected them to be there in spades. What´s more they dressed conservatively which is surprising since the climate is as hot or hotter than Cartagena. However it might be a place to take a colombiana who is interested in a super touristy destination since it has a tourist hungry malecón (boardwalk) that even sports an omnimax movie theatre.

Papi I know you´re just making conversation but why don´t you check the archives. If you really want ocean and beach Isla Providencia and Capurganá beat San Andres hands down.

CV, i think i know what is going on here. When I am say in peru or the border of mexico i am more generous in my hottie evaluations.  In other words, a 9 in Guayaquil probably rates a 6 in medellin. But maybe Doom can shed some analysis on this phenomenon

Well damn I wish all those hot scantily clad chicas with bubble butts hadn´t left town just before I got there. I must have been seeing tourists from Peru.

Cartagena is by far the most romantic city I've ever visited. Plenty to do and see. I never grasped the concept of a city being 'romantic' until we set foot there.

We honeymooned there about a week and stayed at Mark's place. Big thumbs up. His place has a post-modern motif, lots of amenities and the location in Barrio El Cabrero is down the street from El Museo Rafael Nunez and walking distance from Ciudad Vieja. About 5 mins from Boca Grande. Breathtaking view of the Caribbean from the 12th floor balcony. Wife loved it and still speaks fondly of it. He's a client-oriented businessman and the process flowed smoothly.

Cartagena far exceeded my expectations and trumps even Honolulu for honeymoon destination.
