Peru vs Colombia
« on: February 24, 2007, 08:47:52 AM »
1. Culture: Colombia is a happy place despite their problems. Overall one gets a very warm sense from the people. Peru has Machu Picchu, wide boulevards, etc., but papi is a bigger fan of colombia in this respect. Colombia wins

2. Women: People I meet in Central America often ask me if they put something in the water in colombia. However, I have seen a few stunning women in Peru. Colombia wins.

3. Food: While I do enjoy some Colombian local dishes and so forth some of the food tastes like cardboard. Peru is the Paris of Latin America. Peru wins.

4. Beer: I have never been a fan of been in Latin America. Yet, Brava has a decent body and a strong kick. Not Atkins recommended but papi approved. Colombia wins

5. Cocktails: Pisco Sours. Need I say more. Peru wins

6. Agencies: I have visited most of the agencies in Colombia and Peru. I am not much of a fan of agencies but in general favor colombia. Colombia wins

7. Climate: Hard to beat Medellin, the land of eternal spring. I also like the climate in Cali. I can tolerate the coast and Bogota. The weather in Lima basically sucks but hear it is nice in the north. Colombia wins.

8. Airlines: Avianca has made big improvements under new ownership yet LAN is a better experience. Peru wins

9. Fishing: Colombia is a big pond with lots of beautiful women. The stunning women in peru can meet the young foreigner tourists who now travel there yet there are a ton of peruvian ladies on the internet. More MOB gringos go to colombia but this is a tough call. A tie

10. Sincerity: Cali has its share of players but there are plenty of sincere women in all of colombia including Cali. Again a tough call. A tie.

colombia: 5
peru: 3
Tie: 2

I see your point but for me , I have gone for Lima because i have been able to find girls who speak English, and the fact i cant speak Spanish is a big thing. I am not really in the position to consider  wine, food, and cocktail bars. I see your point that Peruvians are a as hot as Colombians on the whole. But again in my position with no Spanish, how would i land a model in Columbia. saying that i need to learn Spanish i know ,,,but i will get the motivation to do that once i have been.

Neil, the first time i went to Cali, I didn't know the meaning of hola.  I met someone and she didn't know the meaning of hello. I bought those electronic translators and we managed. I then went to spanish class and she went to English. We managed for 2 years. Don't let the language be a show stopper to going to colombia. Good luck in Peru

judge by divorce ratio
« Reply #3 on: February 24, 2007, 09:56:06 AM »
Papi, maybe you should judge the two countries by how many marriages have taken place, (Gringo/ Latina) and how many are still married. Even though Colombia would win by sheer numbers, I bet the divorce ratio is much lower for Peru than Colombia.

You have to hand it to the Peruvians, their food is great. They do like to eat cats and other small furry critters once in a while, so if your "pollo" has a long tail, well...jaja

i defer this to the experts. Possibly Doom can lend an opinion on the numbers.

LOL! Funny comment coming from a Colombian. FYI, in korea they eat dog. I am told it is tastes good and helps the sex drive but I can't report since I did my best to avoid a delicious serving of Fido

Sorry, Cachaco, but that's cagada. Yes, Peruvians are known for eating guinea pigs (historically, it's been one of the few sources of protein for those pueblos in the higher elevations), but cats???

And I wouldn't knock eating the guinea pig (a rodent). We eat rabbits; rabbits are mammals; and they've often been our pets. Hell, we've been eating members of our own family for quite some time now! It's even a holiday icon (the Easter Bunny), for Peter's sake. Think about it: it's as if we've been basting Santa alongside some veggies on X-mas day and, afterwards, fighting over his wishbone.

"Here comes Peter Cottontail, hoppin' down the bunny trail, hippity, hoppity ... into your frying pan."

Who will cry for Peter? :'(

Now what's sicker?

Doombug,
I exaggerated a little trying to be funny, but in fact it's true about the cats, believe it or not. One of the Spanish networks ran a news story on it a few years ago. I don't think it's on the menu everyday and also not a widespread practice throughout Peru but yes, they do chow down on Sylvester on occasion in some corners of Peru...  ;)

i'm not trying to insult my Peruvian brethren, I love their other food, it's truly superior to Colombian food. And yes in Colombia we eat rabbits, guinea pigs, and even ants so I shouldn't be talking , but I think so far we keep Fluffy and Fido off the menu jaja

Just as i told you in the PM, Peru is the better bet for you. A Colombiana will eat a man alive if she knows you do not know Spanish. There are exceptions of course, but in general i think for a guy with no Spanish, there are more English educated women in Peru and they are not obsessed with plastic surgery either. Also there work ethic is better in Peru if you are looking for a woman that will get a job and share in the bills, obligation, ect because they are brought up that way. Good luck in Peru and i will be interested to hear how it goes for you.

Funny. We hear the oft-repeated Colombian aversion to divorce (courtesy of Jamie's site: "There is a reason why Colombia has the lowest divorce rate in the world..."; Cali's Best: "Russia has the highest divorce rate in the world! Colombia and other Latin countries have the lowest."; Latin Life Mates: "There is a reason however, why Colombian woman have the lowest divorce rate in the world."; and even Wiki: "This may be reflected in the fact that Colombia has one of the lowest divorce rate in the world. [citation needed]"), but good luck finding any supporting evidence.

For what it's worth, G. Bala's "Marriage Longevity Rates" does give us a very small glimpse of the comparative success/failure rates between the two cultures. (Zero dissolutions thus far among those Peruvian couples listed.) Not to mention the success rate among members here who've yet to be abandoned by their Peruvian brides. But I've yet to uncover anything to support the assertion that Colombianas have a lock on fidelity.

The Latin countries of Mexico, Chile, and El Salavador might, though:

http://www.divorcereform.org/gul.html offers nothing on either Peru or Colombia.

Nor does:

http://www.divorcemag.com/statistics/statsWorld.shtml
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/peo_div_rat-people-divorce-rate

Britannica offers marriage/divorce rates on many countries, just not Peru or Colombia.

Compound the difficulty further still since we're interested in figures as they relate to Westerners marrying Latinas.

Very hard stuff to dig up. (Somehow, IMBRA and Cantwell had an easy go at it, though. :))

An interesting item for the Brazil watchers out there:

Quote
The divorce rate in Brazil has doubled since 1985. Many experts believe that this is due to the 1988 abolition of a law that men could only have two divorces in their lifetime. Now, they can marry and divorce as many times as they like.

Sociologists believe that attitudes towards divorce have changed. In the past, women who divorced their husbands were looked down upon. Now, Brazilian women believe that if a woman suffers from domestic abuse, it is a shame to continue being with him. Statistics show that 73% of divorces and separations are initiated by women. In addition, infidelity is another reason for the break up of marriages. A psychologist, Mr. Louis, says that, in Brazil there is a strange phenomenon of single girls seeking out married men.

In order to maintain social stability, Brazilian law states that married couples must wait two years after their marriage to get a divorce. Furthermore, they must live apart for two years. The law also stipulates that people must wait two years after a divorce to remarry.

Crap! :o

That's four years after marrying the wrong nutbasket before one can get hitched again.

Finally, I thought this was pretty damn funny:

Quote
Trivia: Countries with the Lowest Divorce Rate?
(counted by divorces per thousand)

1.  Vatican City 0.00
2.  Guatemala 0.15
3.  Macedonia 0.27
4.  Mexico 0.35
5.  Chile 0.46
6.  Turkey 0.46
7.  Italy 0.48
8.  Iran 0.50
9.  Libya 0.50
10. El Salvador 0.51

Well, duh! The Pope would be ripping someone's ass if a divorced showed up in the V.C.'s demographics.

I don't doubt it.

I'd just never heard or read about it before. Never encountered it. And could only find anecdotal evidence of it on the Net.

I suspect it's not nearly as pervasive as, say, the lil' skinless doggies hanging in the shop windows of Hong Kong (a nice intro. to Asia I realized back in the late 80's).

I wonder about that 12.3% number for thailand since many, if not most, marriages are never registered with the amphur and only registered marriages need to be dissolved.

Don't believe the "hype" about getting eaten alive by Colombianas if you can't speak spanish...that's just absurd.  I think  a guy who has alot to offer a woman will have equal chance in Peru or Colombia or Brazil, or wherever...

It's very unnecessary to keep bashing colombianas just because of one's failure to find and KEEP one...

I would venture to say that of ALL the divorces that occur between gringos & Colombianas, the major cause of the breakup in the vast majority of cases is the GRINGO, not the Colombiana...and if said gringo married a Peruana, chances are the marriage would fail also.

Interesting stats Doombug! I notice that there are not any English speaking countries with the lowest divorce rates and wonder if there's a correlation here. Little or no English=lower divorce rates.

I think the correlation is radical feminism and it's effects on Anglophone/Westernized societies. But that's just my $0.02
